Hello,

My DH and I are taking an adult only trip to Universal in a week! :) :) I have read through the HP books with our son, but have only seen the first HP movie. My DH has only seen the 1st movie as well.

Should we try to cram and watch through the movies before our trip? If we don't have time, should we just watch the last 4? Thanks!!

You don't need to see the movies at all. The books will do just fine.

The first four are the ones to watch to brush up. Then the Gringott's ride is straight from the second part of Deathly Hallows.

Agree with Damo. If you're familiar with the books, it will all make sense.

It's true that the areas at IoA and USF *look* just like the movie sets, so it may give you a bit of a "hey, I'm in the movie" feeling if you watch movies 1, 3, and 6, but you won't feel out of place if you don't.

One tip for getting more out of your visit - don't just look straight ahead, look up, look down, look off in corners - they've done a remarkable job of filling the place with little things.

I really enjoyed spending just a few minutes near the entrance to Diagon Alley, and looking at the expressions on people's faces as they saw it for the first time. Priceless.

Watch what you can. But knowing the books will be enough.

You really don't need to know the full stories to appreciate Potter areas.......they are amazing and actually stand alone really well.

i wouldn't worry about not knowing all the background.
there are enough things in the potter area for you to figure out, things about the story line.

many people that work there, or just a guest visiting love to explain something to a newbie/muggle

i tried to watch the movies, but i lost interest in them.
have not read the books.

but, i was amazed at all the details in the parry hotter areas .......the shops, employees, restaurants, rides, shows and everything inside that section.
so many talk to others about how it all links together and can't help but over hear and learn how the theme tied into the books/movies.

the entire park section there flows quite well and someone that goes without the background knowledge, can have a marvelous entertaining time there.

i read a few of the trip reports that families took to see potterville.
some had pictures included.

this was the only preparation i had for the first time i went to the potter section.
and, i totally enjoyed it!

I wouldn't skip ahead. The stories are important.

The movies are a bit different from the books so if you spend a pleasant but emotional week watching the movies, set aside some time in the futures to read the books as well.

But you don't NEED the stories to appreciate the place.

a newbie to potter can do that land and be blown away!
well worth spending as much time as you can in the two potter sections.

Thank you all for the replies. We are watching HP right now. :) You replies have been helpful!!
