HP Forbidden Journey for my 5 year old dd???

Do you think HP's Forbidden Journey ride is appropriate for my 5.5 year old? She is 47" (not quite 48") but is it also too scary? Any physical danger for a small child?

If she doesn't hit 48" as determined by CMs at the attraction, then the decision is made for you. There is no physical danger to anyone that meets the height requirement.

But understand, much of FJ is nothing but scary elements. Dark things from the HP universe get loud and close (while staying just out of reach), so a 5yo may be plenty scared unless they are unusually familiar and comfortable with them. I won't list the specific elements so as not to spoil.

My DD rode for the first time as a 7yo, but I'm reasonably sure she had her eyes closed for most of it. That said, she declared "it was awesome" upon exiting and has gone back a second time willingly.

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure my dd would not like this ride even if she is over 48" she is a very sensitive child. She likes dinosaurs and thrilling things but when it comes to darkness and shock she doesn't do well.

In one word, the ride is extremely INTENSE. I feel like it'd be scary for a 5 year old & it seems like it lasts forever. I was shaking when I got off of it & my heart was pounding. I took my then 8 year old on it & he said he liked it but he didn't want to ride it again!

My daughter was only 44" and 5.5 on our last trip - which is good because there's no way she could have handled FJ. We are planning on going back when she's 48" which will be at 7.5. I'm comfortable with having her go on it at that age. My oldest did do it at 8 and closed his eyes for some parts and he's not the type to scare easily. As far as scare factor, I'd say it's the most scary ride for kids out of all the parks I've been to because you're right inside the action.

If she`s quite sensitive I wouldn`t put her on it. It`s a fantastic ride but intense.

Wait till she`s a little older and I`ll bet she`ll love it then

It is definitely intense, not because of movement of the ride, like a coaster might be (or not completely, my 11 year old hates it because she feels like she is going to go upside down, though it doesn't). But my 14 year old still closes her eyes (she is also a sensitive child who is afraid of all bugs, snakes, etc, though. I realize most kids aren't quite so scared of things by this age). Also, we went last summer with friends who had an 8 year old daughter, and it scared her badly. So I would definitely NOT bring a 5 year old on, and would be hesitant about a 7 year old, would prepare them in advance if possible.

Don't want to hyjack your thread, but how would this ride be for an 84 year old, taking my Daughter (31) GS (6) & My Mom (84) to Universal in a few weeks and GS is finally tall enough to ride this, but would it be something we could take my Mom on too?

I don't want to tell you "no," but I simply can't imagine any 84yo enjoying this ride unless they are a total daredevil.

It does not go upside down, but for about four minutes it almost constantly swings you around, albeit smoothly, on the end of a robotic arm. At some points you are oriented on your back, at others you are facing downward.

Would have to agree.If she is in great shape and very active and likes thrill rides it would be ok.But it is pretty rough

I think it depends on the kid. My Godson is 5 and he loved the ride. They had to get in line and go on again! On the other hand he did not like Tower of Terror at Disney Studios.

As for the elderly woman...again it depends on the person. A friend of mine took her elderly mother on it (77 I think) and she did fine.

I would go through the single rider line and test it out and then decide what you think.

84! Awesome. I was worried about my 60 y/o mom!

My son was not tall enough at 5 but I think he would have loved it. It is a bit scary but does not move fast. Some areas are dark as well. I let my son watch videos of a lot of rides so he knew what to expect before going on the ride. While that might ruin it for some, I found it to be helpful. He knew that everything came out alright at the end too.

A lot of the ride is SO cool, with the real feeling of flying...but those huge and scary things are a bit much for a sensitive kid.



For an 84 year old...would depend on the 84 year old! My next door neighbor is 97 and I can imagine him riding it and having a GREAT time. His son, however, is about 25 years younger, and I can't see him on any thrill ride at all. It's not just sheer age, but what that person is like as well.

Um, no. This would really cut into repeat business at FJ.
