How's this for sad?

Today, I was in ds's 1st grade class for their Christmas party. There is one girl Paige who just can't behave, stay on task, struggles academically, can't do even the simplest of things. Crass, rude, and very hard to like.

The kids in my group were each telling what they hope to find under their Christmas tree- typical stuff- Barbie, Hot Wheels....then Paige says "All I want Santa to bring me is a family who is nice to me" Then she says "Oh- and I'd like to able to do well in school"

This just about broke my heart. Me and the other mom had tears in our eyes for this poor girl. You ever know what's going on in a kid's heart and mind.

Is she a foster child? Maybe she is being mistreated and you need to report what she said. How sad, it is true we really don't know how many children have a really bad home life. Hope things improve for this child.

I'm not sure if she's a foster child, but I planned on telling the teacher about it tomorrow.

Reminds me of a little boy that LIVED with me for about 2 years. His parents always asked if they could "have me babysit" and then they would not come back and get him for weeks. He was 8 at the time and he lived with us for a good 2 years. One weekend he went "home" and came back covered with bruises....he told me his "dad" had beat him with a dress shoe b/c he didn't flush the toilet.

I made the mistake of calling DFCS.....his family moved to Columbus and I haven't seen or heard from him since. I wish I had kept my mouth shut and atleast I could have protected him while he was here....b/c his Dad only wanted him, maybe, once a month. I just made them flee......
