How's the ride from upstate to LGA

I noticed that SONG has r/t airfare for the 5 of us for $677. That's about 1/2 of what I've seen out there for this fall. My DH isn't too keen on driving through NYC. Anyone driven it? How is the ride? I have plenty of time to make reservations and I'm closer to Syracuse and Albany airports. If we go it would be drive down on a Tuesday afterschool, maybe there's a hotel near LGA that we could spend the night and shuttle over to the airport for a 6:30 am flight. We'd come back on a Sunday around 4:30 pm.....

Anyone with traffic, driving suggestions?

I have driven there a few times. No problems. If you wanted to stay at a hotel I would stay with the better known chains, you could always stay in Westchester or Douglaston LI, both are close.

I think it is worth the travel for the savings.

There are a few national chain hotels right across from LGA, when you are doing the math remember that you will have to pay to park the car at LGA. Figure about 14 per day, plus the cost of the hotel room.

Staying in Westchester does not make any sense, I live about 40 minutes from LGA in Westchester, you need to figure about 90 minutes to lLGA, as it can take that long to go over the Bridge.
