Just wondered how those of you still out of work are faring?? I was "off", after being downsized, for 4 months. Have been in my new position for one month and it's going great.
Being unemployed for the first time in 23 years was a bit scary and required some adjustments.
Wanted to know if things are picking up for the rest of you??

URGH. People aren't hiring or they don;t want to pay anything.
But, I really haven't searched a hard as I will in late July.

But, my BIL found a good job after 8+ months on the unemployment train.

DS gratuated in March.
He has a degree in computer engineering.
He found a job (actually got two offers).
But.........he's relocating :( That's what it takes.
He's excited and looking forward to the adventure!

I need a part-time job but haven't been looking too hard yet. I have some things to do first but really hope to find something by the end of the summer.

I just got my master's degree and will start job hunting soon, and I certainly am not looking forwards to it. I expect it will be a long and difficult experience. To make matters worse, I recently got braces on my teeth, and worry about how interviewers will respond to my metal-mouth appearance. But oh well! I will be updating my resume this weekend, and try to be hopeful. :)

Still hunting, hunting and more hunting on my end. I hopefully will be hearing that I have a job next week. Had an interview that seemed to go very well.

I was part of a down sizing as well. After 3 weeks of being unemployed, I took a consultant job for 6 months. I like the job, and the people are really nice, but management treats you like a sub-human. Since, I am not on payroll, I get a different treatment. I will work out my 6 months, but, will find a permanent somewhere else.

DH finally got an IT job 3 weeks ago...after being out for almost 2 years.

I'm still looking for something in either IT or Admin w/o much success. Admin jobs think I'll leave for an IT job & I don't do programming. Right now with so many people out, they want the person with the highest qualifications possible...and I'm not it.

I'm not even getting anywhere with the consulting route. :(

doxdogy, we left Jax (my DH hometown) 4 years ago after he had been out of work for 6 months. He does IT project management and took a contract position at State Farm in central Illinois. It killed us to leave Florida!!! We loved our house, schools, church, and friends, not to mention being so close to Disney!! After 1 year he got a great offer in Chicago so we moved further north. It was great money, full relo package, sign-on bonus, etc. They laid him off after 3 months! He got another job quickly, but was laid off again 2 years later! Now he is doing contract work, good money but no security, we have no idea how long this contract will last and the commute is killing him! We really want to come back south but most of the things he applies for don't even call him. When they do they won't do relo or the pay stinks! We keep hearing that things are getting better but we don't see it at all. We have several friends up here who have been laid off by Lucent, etc. If you have a very "in demand" skill or can work for peanuts you have better luck. You may have to move, depending on what you do. Good luck to you, we sure could use some..Lacee

Chris had gotten his hopes up so high with trying to get into school. We were waiting to find out about the financial aid. He's eligable for the GI Bill. But he got a call yesterday that he wasn't going to get any other kind of Aid. So he's going to be hitting the job search hot and heavy this week. :(

Unfortunately, moving isn't an option for me. DH has a good job, it pays the bills with a little left over. My father is in his late 70's and I am the only child that lives close to him. I really wouldn't feel comfortable moving miles away from him. The company that laid me off, was a spin off of Lucent. The job that I interviewed for earlier in the week, is with a grocery store chain working as an admin asst in the corporate office. I figured food retail is just about as safe as one can get. No matter how bad the economy, people have to eat.

i graduated college exactly a year ago and am still unemployed. still, i can't complain as i've been living with my parents (maybe i can complain?) and have no one to support. i hope we all find jobs SOON!
