How's SSR construction going?

That's the only playground that I know of. There's supposed to be another playground in the Paddock area when it opens.

I'd go for Congress Park...unless you think you will be walking back and forth to HRS several times per day. At CP you are a quick walk to the pool, and much closer to DTD. Plus you will probably have a great view...the quiet pool and the playground (not the mention the BBQ area).

I think you made a good choice with SSR...I don't think the construction will bother you at ALL.

Thanks Miffy. :goodvibes
I have seen the playground before.

Sooo, there are three areas - Congress Park, Springs and Paddlock?

Congress Park is open and has the quiet pool and playground.

The Springs is across from the theme pool. Is this section open yet?

And Paddlock is still under construction? This area will be the most removed from anything, correct?

Does most of Congress Park have DTD views?

Not quite. Last report was that the buildings would be opening late-March, early-May and early-June.

Yes, it is still under construction. I don't know that I would call these buildings the "most removed" from the main pool area. If you look at the map I posted on the first page, I think one or two buildings in Congress Park are actually the furthest from the main pool. Note the bridge that crosses the small lake in the middle of the Paddock and Springs buildings. That bridge will help make it only a 5-6 minute walk from any of those buildings to the main pool.

And, yes, there will be another Quiet Pool and Playground in The Paddock. It's right at the end of the walking bridge. Not sure when exactly the Paddock buildings and pool area might begin to open. It could be as early as July, or a couple of months after The Springs.

At face value, The Paddock rooms may end up being the least attractive of those in the resort. Congress Park has many with the DD view and is close walking distance to DD. The Springs will be the closest units to the main pool and restaurant. At this point, it's hard to really attach any additional benefit to The Paddock units.

Does most of Congress Park have DTD views?
Most...yes. But due to the design and placement of the buildings, not all rooms have the DD view.

We requested the DD view in December, and had three rooms to choose from at check-in. We ended up with a great look at Pleasure Island and the nightly fireworks.

OK, so for a July trip, really Congress Park is all that is available anyway, maybe a few of the Springs depending on how construction target dates go...

Congress Park is it for right now? Wow, not many rooms open yet it seems.

Thanks so much!

DVC has already sold points in those buildings and told folks when they can begin to make their reservations. There's really no way they could push the dates back.

If anything, it's possible they could open early. By the time you visit in July, I suspect they will all be open.

Depends on your perspective. There are 184 rooms in those four buildings--just about the same size as all of VWL. And no dumpster view to boot. ;)

The word on Thursday from my DVC guide was that the first building in the Springs was set to open "in a few days." When we were there in early January this building was stocked with furniture, lights were on, the parking lot was being paved and landscaping looking rather complete.

OK, so when we go in July we would either be in Congress Park or the Springs, Paddlock will still be under construction?

So even if we end up in the Springs it should all be complete by then and we shouldn't be thrown into a construction area.

Correct? (It seems like I'm repeating myself? :confused3 )

I doubt it. But you could always take a drive around the resort before you check-in to see if you have issues with any particular location.

Or, just request Congress Park. You'll be 60 seconds away from the quiet pool and playground, 5 minutes from the main pool and 5-10 minutes from Downtown Disney.

BTW, it's "Paddock", as in a place where they keep horses...not "padlock" (something you might put on a gym locker). ;) :earboy2:

I think it would be a perfect time to go! You are pretty much guaranteed to get Congress Park or the Springs. I have stayed at SSR 3 times since its opening and one of the reasons is because we were guaranteed Congress Park and a greater chance at DTD view. There are only a couple of rooms in
each CP building that wont have DTD view and those are located on the ends and even then you will catch a glimpse of DTD.
They are not opening a building area unless it is fully functional, but one thing I can say is that they are completely finishing construction in an area before using buildings for ressies. So if they put you in the Springs, the Springs will be completely finished and they will have moved on to the Paddocks.

I personally would not be happy in the Paddocks, but even those buildings will have a lake view or golf course view.

DW and I have travelled enough - and had enough various views (Water, Pool, DTD, Lake, Strip, Parking Lot, etc.) that it really doesn't matter to us. And it looks like even the farthest Paddlock (hee Shan) building will have a beautiful Lake view - more than wonderful for hot coffee and rolls at breakfast.

On looking at the map again, I noticed that the one Paddock building on the far right (6501??? can't make out the numbers) might actually be the most convenient building. Close to the CP bus stop, close to the DTD path, and closer to the Town Center than any of the CP buildings. It's going to be an interesting next few years, seeing the actually plusses and minuses of all the SSR buildings.

I agree. The end building in the Paddock group (should be the final one to open) is across the street from the CP bus stop and is very close to the DD path (and it's also close to the back entrance- which is presently the construction entrance).

The resort has a very different look now that all of the first two phases have the exterior structure complete. All of the Paadock buildings will have a nice lake view and none are very far from the High Rock Springs pool since there is a walkway/bridge across the lake. It appears that none of these buildings will be more than about 150 yards from the pool/AP/spa/CH area.

It will be interesting to see what opinions appear once all of the first 12 buildings have opened later this year.

Stay tuned!

Count me in as one that will truely not mind being in the Paddock area. No offense to anyone that cares deeply about Disney views, but unless I am looking at the Rocky Mountains, or the Grand Canyon or Diamond Head I don't get worked over the Disney views. Besides I can always take a stroll and see any view I wish. I would imagine from the upper floors of some of the Paddock rooms you will be able to see the DD fireworks.

See you at the Paddock Pool, DoctorT Maybe we will have the pool to ourselves, :)
