How's SSR construction going?

Is it still real noticeable by the main pool area or have the buildings gone up already across that street?

I'm thinking about either SSR or OKW for July and this will be a non park trip. (We'll be hanging out at the resort - swimming, relaxing...) If construction is still everywhere I might wait on this resort. Thoughts?

I know that the first of the Springs buildings are to open in March(I think). The one closest to the pool is the one that will be open first. There is still plenty of construction on the road on the way in to the resort. I really don't think it would be all that bothersome (I'll let you know for sure in 2 weeks after our stay! :) ), after you enter the resort. I think SSR would be a good non park trip resort. Or I might lean toward VWL, for all the non- park stuff to do there. But then your girls might see how close they are to the parks, and that might not be a good thing! I would think by July the majority of SSR buildings under construction will at least appear finished on the exterior.

Thanks. I'll look out for a trip report from ya then! ;)

Last time we drove thru it was last June and it just looked like construction everywhere, not real attractive.

This will be just my Mom and girls and my Mom doesn't want to do the four parks. We'll be relaxing at the resort or going to the water parks. We decided today against VB simply cause we already have a trip planned there this summer and Mom decided we should do something different.

She has already stayed at VWL and BCV and I think I'm leaning towards OKW or SSR cause we'll be using our car alot. We'll be at OKW in April so SSR might be nice, but I'm concerned about looking at construction.

Anyone have the schedule of dates for the SSR buildings' completion?

I drove through there last week on the way to the golf course. It looked ok to me. It looks like a small city.

Shan,

We stayed there a few weeks ago and from the pool area itself you couldn't really see the construction. You saw it on the walk back to Congress Park (approx 6 mins stroll with 2 young children, to give you an idea of distance)

I'm almost positive the construction by the Springs will be complete by July - the external bits will be, anyway.

It was very relaxing but great to be able to wander over to DTD for eating & shopping. We LOVED it here.

Cheers
Karen

Someone said that Paddocks building were to be finished by the end of the year.

That would leave Phase III which should have 6 buildings in it. I'm guessing six because someone else said there would be a total of 18. I wondering when Phase III will start. My recent paperwork showed to distinct areas on the map with the paperwork. Which make me believe that there may two clusters of three buildings.

YMMV because this is just my ramblings.

Recent reports indicated that construction equipment has arrived in the vicinity of the fareway villas. These villas are slated for demolition to make way for part of the last 6 buildings.

Given the plots of land involved--one large and one smaller--my guess was that they would have 4 buildings along the golf course and the remaining two will be on the smaller piece of land beyond the guard shack. I'm sure it won't be long before details start to leak out.

Does anyone have a link to a map showing these various areas?

And opinions on staying here if we plan on spending most of our time in the resort itself?

Has SSR's Community Hall started doing anything?

Thanks!

Here's the resort map:

The distances may be a bit deceiving. The common area (pool, restaurant, etc.) is no more than 5 minutes away from the furthest buildings in Congress Park on foot. And, from the topmost building in CP, you can walk to Downtown Disney in 5 min or less.

The Community Hall does have daily activities, but I have no idea what they might be.

If you're not planning theme park activities, I think SSR stacks up fine against the other resorts--even better if you want to hang out at DD.

when we were there last month. They had scheduled activities every day. Many were free and some charged a small fee. We didnt do any activities, but we did stop in several times to see what was going on. They have computers, video games, ping pong ,TV and lots of arts and crafts. They always had a snack out too.

tjkraz...can you kind of "describe" for me (using your map above) where the six new buildings are going?

Thanks,

I'll do you one better. Here's the map that appeared in the Fall '04 Vacation Magic. Sorry, but the PDF from the member web site leaves something to be desired. You should be able to make out the current buildings. The dark green areas are labeled "Proposed Construction." The smaller plot toward the top is between the guard shack and the first building in The Paddock. The larger plot is right on the fareway. My guess is they would put 4 buildings in the larger location and two in the smaller. Should be pleanty of room for a nice pool if they choose!

If you've still got your Fall '04 VM, the map looks much better in print.

not tjkraz ... but the map in my paper showed two areas west and north (left and up) of the Carriage House. One of the areas is slightly larger than the other. The larger area is closer to the Carriage House. The smaller is next to the resort entrance on the north side of the drive. Its bordered by the resort entrance, DVC Drive and Buena Vista Drive.

Edit: I need to type faster. Cannot believe it took 7 minutes to type it.

Thanks everyone. I think we might go with SSR then.

Besides non-smoking and non-handicap :teeth: , should I bother requesting a particular section since we'll be at the resort so much?

And from what I'm gathering, by July all sections should be completed except for those green shaded in areas? What section would I want to avoid if I didn't want to be near any of that?

Was it Congress Park that had that cute playground and quiet pool looking over DTD? Is there another section similar to that further down?

Thanks everyone!

Hi Shan,

Yes Congress Park is the area by the quiet pool overlooking DTD (what a view at night!) and also is next to the playground (which my DDs really liked - ages 5 & 8)

We were in Bldg 2 which was a 6 minute walk to the main pool.

HTH

I didn't see another one Shan - is it any help if I post the photos I took of it?
