Hiya, "pinnuts"
How's life in the fast-paced world of pintrading these days ? Figgy told me that a couple people had asked about us, since I hadn't been around in a while, so I thought I'd drop in and let everyone know we were still alive...
As to the reason I haven't been around much...Honestly, I think I just got a bit burnt out. First there was the big event in August where we got to meet so many of you nice folks. That was a blast, and I apologize for not keeping up with all the great people we met. I hope nobody got the idea that meeting you all had anything to do with my disenchantment with the whole pintrading thing, 'cause that wasn't it at ALL.
However, the beginning of the end of pintrading for me was at that event. Now, don't get me wrong...I'm not naive enough to have thought there'd be nothing but us "nice guys" at an event of that size. Still, I think almost every trade we made with people outside this group just left a bad taste in my mouth. It was like, no matter that we had some very good pins for trade, if it wasn't one of the currently "hot" traders, the other guy wasn't interested. If he was, he usually wanted way more than what we were willing to give up for a pin that just wasn't "worth" it. Now, I'm a big believer in the "old" adage of "collect what you like, not what eBay says is 'valuable'." Still, since we obtained most of our pins via that route (not living near WDW has more than one disadvantage
), I'm usually aware of what is "fair" in that perspective as well. Needless to say, very few of the "offers" we got were equitable in that way, or most any other.
Anyway...I didn't want to come on here just to complain about our bad experiences at an event several months ago. I just wanted to drop by and say "hi" to all my old friends, and to promise not to stay away so long (like it or not
). We had another trip in last month, taking my mom and our DD for their first trips, and met a couple wonderful traders on our last day at DTD (becoming a tradition to do this before heading to the airport) that went a long way towards softening my view of pintrading...and I just bought my first pin since a couple weeks ago on eBay
So, I'll keep dropping by every now and then, even if I am, by now, hopelessly out of touch with what is "new and hot" these days...lol...Hope to talk to everyone soon...
