Howdy! FW Cabin FAQ Thread!!

Awesome! We have never booked ADRs before, so I was a little chicken about that. Last time we were there was 2004, and I guess since it was the "pre-dining plan era", it was not too terrible to get a reservation if you called even a couple of hours ahead of time.
So, we are going to book a Crystal Palace lunch (DH loves a good salad bar, and I hear they have lots of that at lunch) and then one night I'll book an ADR in Mexico - we always love going there.

I'm so happy to have found this thread! DH is already getting tired of hearing me plan... :lovestruc

My cousin arrived today at FW cabins. She and her 3 kids and DH have been 4 or 5 times to WDW but never stayed onsite. She just booked last week as this was a last minute thing. I hope she has a good time there. She is more of a GF type person, so I was shocked when she told me where she was staying. To the FW cabins veterans, is there any advice you may have for her to make her trip better? I am worried that since she doesn't have a feel for what staying on property is like combined with the fact that she did NO planning, she will not have a good time. We have talked many times about WDW trips and the need to plan for them and I have gotten the feeling that she thinks I am kinda nuts for being such a type A kind of person when it comes to WDW. Had she told me she was going, I would have been more than happy to help her out. Same thing happened to another cousin of mine who honeymooned at GF back in September. I offered way in advance to help plan their meals and she never got back with me. Well, when she returned she told me that she wished she had listened to me. When will folks learn that a WDW trip requires planning? TIA for any tips!

Most people who know me would consider me more of a GF person and I am. That said, I LOVE the Ft. Wilderness cabins. The privacy is so nice- no kids running down the hall screaming at each other while the parents trying to shush them make as much noise as their children.

One of the nicest things about WDW is that it allows you to luxuriate at the GF, feel tropical at the Poly, or kick back at Ft. Wilderness.

Okay, so what about pizza? If we just want to hang out and order a pizza one night, what places deliver to Fort Wilderness? And do I have to meet them at the front, or do they come to the cabin? Does Trails End or another place in FW have a really good take-out pizza?

I did make 3 ADRs - all lunches - at Crystal Palace, San Angel Inn, and Biergarten!

:woohoo:

Do busses to the other parks come to FW Cabins?? Or, do you have to take the bus/boat to MK and transfer? Thanks!

LIZ

youll have to ride the fort wilderness buses up to the front, but they do have transportation to other places. and a little tip...get bagels or even eggs and bacon, and some other basic groceries such as milk, oj, bisquick/pancake mix, ect. and cook them in the morning before heading out. its so nice, and you do have a full kitchen, so why not? (oh, and you also have a dvd player...so if you need something to do while the kids are at the pool, I reccommend bringing some movies. :happytv:)

To followup on what dhiwannebe said about breakfast in the cabins... Mousekeeping will do the dishes! When they come in to make up beds, etc, they also run the dishwasher. Nice!

Wow, lots of great info in this thread! Hopefully someone can help answer a question for me, as I haven't been able to find any answers yet to my specific question.

The bunk beds - are both the bottom AND top bunks suitable for adults?

Here's the scenario - My husband, my father and I planned a trip to WDW and wanted to check out the cabins, yay! Hubby and I are taking the bedroom, dad's taking the Murphy bed in the other room. Then, after years of telling her how awesome WDW is, our roommate decides she's coming this year too, so more YAY! However, we don't want to leave her on her own for the trip, and she can't afford her own cabin (nor can any of us for that matter) so we figured we can share the bedroom with her for sleeping. She'll take a bunk, and the DH and I will have the double.

Now, DH is a bigger guy and we're park commandos, so we're used to CRASHING when we get "home" from the parks. (hence, not being too worried about sharing the room; we're just looking for a place to be unconcious for 6-8 hours a night!) We've even been known to each take our own bed in Value and Mod resorts, just so we can stretch out and pass out without disturbing each other, when need be  What I'm wondering then, with the cabins, is - if he and I want to sleep with our own space (or the double is too crowded for the two of us,) are the roommate or I going to be safe using both bunks of the bed? Between us, we're each 5'4"-5'5" and 150-175 pounds. Is one of us going to be alright in the top bunk? Are the bunks stable enough for adults up top?

We're doing a 10 night trip - 5 in the cabins, then moving to 3 rooms Pop for the last 5 nights so we can try the cabins and see how they work out, but then as the week wears on, move into our own spaces, just in case the cabin winds up being too crowded and/or the resort size and bus transportation becomes too much for my dad (who has a heart condition, and gradually runs out of steam as a week at WDW wears on.) Better safe than sorry, and we'll know better how we want to plan next year.

(longwinded, I know - but I figured it was better to throw the details out before anyone offered suggestions that didn't apply to our situation. :) )

The bunk beds will be fine. DD takes the top bunk, while I normally take the bottom, and DW crashes on the double. It's perfect for those of us who "need our own space" when on vacation.

Have a great time at the cabins!

You can order take out pizza (at dinner only) from the Trail's End restaurant. They also offer takeout fried chicken. My family enjoyed both. I don't know about the delivery.

Trails End has takeout, but if you want better pizza you're better off ordering from outside and meeting the delivery person at the front desk area.

We will be staying in the cabins in November 2011 so I am subscribing to the thread...thanks for all the good info!

If it's late November, some of the long-term campers may have their holiday decorations up. I was so happy when I went to the Hoop Dee Doo at the beginning of January that some of the sites were still decorated. I was with a friend from Philly, and he was amazed by some of the displays!

Ooooh, I'm glad I found his thread!! We are staying at the cabins this June for the first time and can't wait! We are doing 3 nights there room only before we transfer over to the Beach Club, so we have time to chill and enjoy the atmosphere of the campground. lots of great info.!:thumbsup2

We are planning a stay this Mid March at the cabins. We will have a car so is there really any need for a cart?
Where is the closet Walmart or something like that to buy food?
Are there any cabins areas that are better then others or do you think they are pretty much even?

Hi. You cannot drive around the resort with a car. They have an internal bus system, or you may rent a cart (a truly memorable experience in and of itself). We stayed in Cedar Circle 2500 loop. Quiet pool close by and laundry if needed. Internal bus system reliable and timely too. Have a wonderful time. March should be a great time!!:goodvibes:goodvibes

want to get some clarification, we are going to have our car on our trip. are we able to drive it to the parks from ft wilderness cabins. we do not want to use wdw transportation

You can drive it to the parks, just not within the campground itself unless you are going to your site is my understanding. Have fun!:goodvibes:goodvibes

Can anyone tell me about the Chip and dale Campfire sing a long? Do you have to pay for it? is it any good?

It's free, and it's a lot of fun. Just find out that time C&D will be there during your trip. Our last time, we missed C&D, but still had fun roasting marshmellows and watching the movie.

--Clarification - getting to see C&D and do the singalong is free. The movie is also free. If you want anything to roast over the fire (marshmellows, etc.), there is a charge for that, or you can bring your own food. They sell sticks if you need them.
