Howard Johnsons or Candy Cane Inn?

Both are popular choices. You will not go wrong either way. Both are about the same distance to DLR. CCI does have a shuttle. Hojo's tends to be less expensive.

Both are great. HoJo has more swimming options, but the beds at the Candy Cane are more comfy. Also the Candy Cane is right next to 7/11 and across the street from a mini strip mall (Subway, pizza, etc).

If they are the same price, I'd probably stay at the Candy Cane. But if you have small kids, they'd probably like HoJo better.

CCI has a free breakfast which clinches it for us. We like being able to eat quick and go. I've never stayed at Hojos but wouldn't mind giving it a try sometime if we couldn't get in to CCI.

We like both hotels but usually pick Hojo because it has been cheaper at the times we have gone. We have enjoyed the continental breakfast at Candy Cane, and the shuttle is nice if our timing is right. We tend to be in a rush to get to the parks in the morning though, so Hojos works best for us because we just eat our own food quickly in our room and walk to the park gates. On days that the park opens at 8 AM, we don't want to be trying to cram in a hotel breakfast that starts at 7 or waiting to catch a shuttle. In the afternoon, my boys really enjoy the Hojo pool and water play area. You won't go wrong with either choice though, so I would mostly look at cost and consider how quickly you like to get moving in the morning.
