Has anyone stayed at the Howard Johnson? The rates look good, but I was wondering about the quality. I know it won't compare to a Disney resort, but is it clean and a good deal for the price or should I stay away from it?

My son stayed at HoJo ?Eastgate? - Its a large facility about halfway east of Disney towards WM & Medeival Times. He said it was fine. Evidently used a lot by school tour groups as there were about 4 staying there when they went.

We stayed at the one on Irlo Bronson with the really good DU rate in June. It was only for one night since our flight was a late one. It was ok. Grout in the shower was mouldy, the safe was rusty, and everything looked "well worn". The maid left an "already been licked envelope" for us to leave her tip in! I paid cash for the room the night we checked in so we had a choice to leave a $100.00 deposit or have the phone turned off. I opted for off since I had my cell phone with me. If you are on a tight budget and you would not be able to go to WDW without that rate I guess it's better than not going at all, but personally for me never again.
Did you check the DTD hotel rates, I don't know what your dates are, but they seem to have some pretty good rates available.

We stayed at the one on Irlo Bronson several years ago, but it sounds like it hasn't changed. Same stuff with the phone - as I was a single mom at the time and had picked the motel to save money, I wasn't too happy about the fee. Since I was staying alone with a child and didn't have a cell phone with me, I didn't feel secure having it turned off.

That wasn't the worst. There were school groups there same time as we were. As a matter of fact, we had the only room at that end of the hotel that wasn't a school group. The kids were on all sides of us and above (we were on the 1st floor). The kids ran around shrieking 'til late. They banged on doors randomly, and phoned rooms randomly to see who was in what room - they assumed the whole hotel was full of their friends. No sign of the adults who should have been controlling behavior. After having the phone ring constantly, we finally took it off the hook about midnite. We complained, but the hotel refused to do anything or even tell me what room the chaperones were in, so I could complain directly. Hotel also refused to move us to another room.

Never again.

Three of us stayed there for one night since our flight got in late. It was okay for one night but I'm not sure I would stay there for more than that. Didn't feel real safe (although nothing happened that I should have felt this way) and I had this "so close yet so far" feeling.

in 2000 and it was a great and clean property; would definitely return again as well as recommend. The room was in neat condition, housekeeping service excellent, and staff very accomodating. Hope this helps.

Maingate West? that is not the one that has the special at the top of the boards here is it? I thought it was the maingate East. If it is noisy than I guess it is worth just going to the ASMo and spending an additional $40 for the night. I will feel better at the Disney resort I guess. Thanks
