Howard Johnson Hotel - Moderate - Pictures

I thought HOJOs went smoke-free last year. We had reservations to stay there in November but changed to BWPPI when they emailed us and told us that they were going to become completely smoke-free before our vacation. (There were 4 smokers in our group & we had requested 2 smoking rooms)

Maybe you should call and ask again when they're going to begin their new smoking policy.

Bouncy, they are smoke-free. You were answering a post from 2005! :rotfl:

Just thought I'd update this thread for others researching HoJo for the first time (since this is the HoJo thread linked to on the planning thread sticky). We loved our recent Sept. 2011 stay at HoJo in a Kids Suite. They converted some connecting rooms into Kids Suites, so one room has a set of bunk beds and a small sofa bed (probably not large enough for an adult) and one room has a king size bed. There are two full bathrooms, which is awesome. There are also a mini fridge, Keurig coffeemaker, and microwave in the king sized bed room. They have comfortable beds, very clean rooms, and great amenities like the free parking, free wi-fi, and 2 flat screen TVs. We got the Entertainment card rate thanks to Jory29, so we paid $99/night (which I think is a total steal and the best value ever!).

Note: there is no free breakfast, but they have a well-stocked market and we just bought our own treats for breakfast since there is a mini-fridge and microwave.

My kids never got to try out the awesome new water play area, Castaway Cove, because they just napped and then wanted to head straight back to DLR. I can't link to the website photos here, so you should go check them out there.

The two biggest drawbacks are 1) the distance (it is not the closest hotel but a perfectly reasonable 8 min walk IMHO and not that much more than walking from PP and DLH) and 2) some complain of the freeway noise. All the Kids Suites face the freeway but we had the AC on all night and didn't hear traffic at all.

I will not hesitate to stay here again when looking for a suite/2 room setup.

I also just returned from a stay at HOJO and we really liked it. We stayed in building 1 in a Disney view room. It was just me and my 2 daughters, so the room size was fine for us but the bathroom is a bit small. We did have a great view of the fireworks from our room/balcony. My daughters loved the splash park and pool. The customer service is awesome. Our grocery delivery came after we had left to go to the park and they brought to our room and even put the cold items in the refrigator.

We walked to the parks each morning and it took about 5-7 minutes to get to bag check but we did take ART home each night since my daughters were too tired to walk. There were even a few afternoons that we took the ART back into the park and HOJO is last stop before you enter park, so it was just a quick hop into the park.

The rooms we were in was a little dated but it was clean. We would not hestitate to stay here again, especially considering the Entertainment rate I had of $79/night.

Does anyone have any recent photos? I'm looking to book this for Dec 2013 for a week for just hubby and I. We're WDW veterans but DL novices!

I'm particularly curious about (with photos, if possible):
  • the pool (although, will it be too cool in December)?
  • Disneyland view rooms (photos of the room themselves)
  • Balcony views of the park

Hubby stayed at the Crown Plaza on business a few years ago and really liked his stay there. Isn't it too far to walk to the parks every day (from the Crown Plaza) though?

No pics to post (try trip advisor) - I am stayed recently

1) Pool - honestly really nice and large, may be a little chilly in December depending on the weather. They do have a hot tub in the Castaway Cove area which is usually full of kids. The lounge chairs are quite comfy in the main pool area.

2) Unsure of Disneyland view rooms - but never found any rooms on this side to have any sort of decent park view. Fairfield Inn has the best since it is the tallest hotel, and those are average at best since you need to be on the walkway to see anything. However, I watched the fireworks from the Hojo from my balcony so that is nice.

3) Same as above, I can't imagine it being overly great. There really isn't such a thing as a park view anywhere. You maybe get tower of terror, the ferris wheel and Matterhorn mountain and the fireworks of course...that is about it from any hotel.

So far I really like this hotel...here's why:

Keurig Coffee Makers - You get 4 pods per day, really decent coffee with no mess to clean up

Clean and not smelly - some of the hotels here smell, this one doesn't

Service - so far great

Safes - nice addition to the room to store travel documents and electronics in

Here's what I don't like:

No Microwave - not a huge deal, but had cold pizza the next day because of it

Hot Tub is in kids water park - if you want to relax...good luck with that

Actually, they do have microwaves, but not in the standard double bed rooms,,,,they are in the park view room. You really see the Matterhorn from the balcony. We stayed in oe of these rooms iin September...there were great views from the room!! When booking request a top floor if possible. I think we were one down from the top floor. Enjoy!!!!

We always get a room with a microwave. We do the 2 queen deluxe.

This is our fav. Lately we seem to stay at Anaheim Plaza though due to price and we like the patios.

Deluxe, premium (view), and suites have microwaves. Standard rooms don't have microwaves. Pool is nice and big, not usually too crowded, reported to be a little on the cool side sometimes so not sure about December swimming. View rooms have balconies. You can generally glimpse Matterhorn, monorail, Tower of Terror, might get decent view of fireworks higher up, possibility of tree partially blocking your view. My son liked going out on the balcony last summer and watching the fireworks, and the music was loud enough to carry over to our balcony.

Here are some pictures from March 2012. I really liked this hotel.

The Howard Johnson Hotel is a moderate hotel, located across the street from the Disneyland Resort.

You can see it when riding the monorail.

It is a 7 minute walk to the Disneyland and California Adventure parks entrances, but you might want to take the ART (Anaheim Resort Transportation) after a long day at the parks.

Here is the Howard Johnson with the ART parked in front.

There is also a quiet pool surrounded by the buildings and pine trees. It was quite nice.

Those pictures were posted 8 years ago! So I assume they have been moved or deleted or the photo account was closed. Would have been nice to see but thank you to Disney Freak for posting some! :thumbsup2

This hotel is on my short list for my stay later this year.

Today's January daily Deal is 15% of a stay of 2 or more nights. The code is SDI. Check their Facebook page each day in January to see what they are offering. Apparently you can change the promo code to a better deal if one comes along.

We are going in January but I'm already getting 15% off with mouse savers. Is there any other discounts besides AP?
