I'm glad to hear you took the plunge and booked the trip.

Honestly, I've never felt unsafe at any time of day at any of the places we've stayed on Harbor including the HOJO (since the XH and I split - the one place we stayed together gave me the creeps). I'm also a single mom (golly, 3 years now ) with a daughter. I walked by myself to and from HOJO in March, on both sides of the street - also preferred the west side under the monortail track- without issue and we really liked the hotel.

I understand your reluctance to step out of your comfort zone as I was just about a nervous wreck the first time we traveled without the XH. It was even worse the second time since we drove. lol It's all good now though.

Actually, we've got the HOJO booked for our March trip. Just waiting patiently for them to post the March entertainment card rates.

I'm a single mom as well ~ our last 3 DLR visits have been just the 3 of us and we felt very safe each time ~ in July we stayed at HoJo's and we love it there! Have fun on your trip West. We visited WDW earlier this month (my mom came with us) ~ we're headed back to DLR for couple days early Dec.

It's funny, but I'm finding my DLR trip (with Hollywood/LA & San Diego Zoo tours, roundtrip transportation from LAX and back, and airfare) to actually cost LESS than my usual WDW trip!......Which means...... I might have to visit DLR more often!

A large part (of either one of them) depends on where you stay. Another big part is what you eat.

We go to WDW during the free dining promotion, and for the four of us for 2 weeks (parks, value resort, free food) it's under $2500.

Our trips to DL have been cheaper, but shorter.
