I am expecting another baby in early Sept. I have been early with both of my other children. I am wondering what the youngest age that anyone has brought a baby to DW. I brought my DD when she was 5 mo and that was a nice trip, she did great!! We wanted to take advantage of the MYW with free dining so we tentatively have a trip booked for 8 nocs starting Oct. 4th. We have been to DW the last 4 years with kids, so this is not a new experience, but I am wavering about taking one this young (about 4weeks old). We are flying too, so I am taking that into consideration too. TIA for any and all opinions.

The youngest we went with was 3 months old. She did great and the rest of my children have been as soon as we could go...vacation time wise. My other two girls were about 4 months and 7 months. I am not sure about 4 weeks, but I would think that as long as the baby is healthy and the doctor says okay...I would go!

Good luck! :wave2:

I think my DD was about 7 weeks old when she first flew. Probably the easiest trip I ever took with her! They are pretty agreeable to anything at that age! :)

My DD was almost 4 weeks....we would have been earlier except we had other family obligations that led us astray!!

Enjoy!

Not that there is anything wrong with bringing a 4 week old to DW, (well my doc told me not to even take my dd to walmart until she was at least 6 weeks, i mean maybe there is something wrong with my doctor...but anyway..) What does a 4 week old baby do at WDW? Do you as adults like going and then you bring your baby?? Or do you make a special trip for the baby? Just curious...

Don't get all reved up. Just was a simple ?. More of the health of the child really. I know my ped..like i said..didn't want us taking dd out until she was at least 6 weeks. Why are you so hostile?
You can do whatever you want with your kids. Thats your buisness.I was just asking you what they did there? If you made the special trip for your 4 week old.?? anyhow..I dosen't matter. Take it down a notch.

Calm Down.. :confused3 Tottally NOT a crime. Wish I wouldn't have asked the Question now. You get defensive and there is not a need to be. You don't need to let little things bother you...all I am saying..on this board and the other board..is that we should all be nice to e/o. No reason for all the hostility. You live in the heat..so you and your family is used to it. For someone like me..from NY...we would passout after a few hours in August heat in FL. I know..we have done it before...w/o kids. It's not your opinion on the topics that bother me..its they way you say them. You really should take this lighter and realize that if what someone posted on the boards about young kids and disney is the worst part of your day..you are doing pretty good. Lighten up. :smooth:
I am done with this though. Didn't mean to offend anyone. Just don't enjoy the bickering.

I

DON'T mean to offend anyone here either.....but to those thinking of visiting -I don't want them put off by all the other negative remarks.....I have run in to WAY more RUDE people than I have infants!! :)

I really didn't mean to get an ugly debate started here. I was just looking for OPINIONS. Obviously we arent planning a trip just for our newborn (we have two other children), but in order for them to go the baby has to go too. Sorry to start anything, I really am just trying to make up my mind and wanted some help. Thanks

It's been a long time, but when my ds was a newborn, he pretty much slept all the time. As long as your new baby can get all the sleep, diaper changes and meals he/she needs, I don't think it really matters where you are. Obviously you already have two children, so you know to keep the new one out of the sun, hydrated, etc.

I would go with the medical advice of your pediatrician. If the medical professional thinks flying and being in the parks is o.k., then I think I would trust that opinion.

If you do decide not to go, please be careful in how you present it to your older ones. It would be a shame if they started out resenting the baby because their new sibling kept them from Disney :sad2:

If I had been there with my 4-week-old it would have been a total disaster. :sad2: But this isn't your first time around the block, so I think deep down you probably already know - or at least have a pretty strong opinion - whether it's a good or bad idea. I would at least get trip cancellation insurance, in case you or the baby are unable to travel.

I wouldn't recommend new infants visiting WDW. I think 4 weeks is just too early. You're going to a place where you're in constant contact with people from all over the world and that's not the most desirable place for an infant to be. Not to mention heat.

Thank you!! Well said.

I would personally have kids go when they are two. Before that, I'm not sure that they would really appreciate that they are in Disney. I'm taking my newborn cousin when he is three.

For some reason, nobody is mentioning the very real risk to mom in all of this. I COULD be wrong, but several airlines used to prohibit moms from flying without dr's ok at end of pregnancy... and there is a reason that women are off of work for 6-8 weeks after a birth. The doc has to ok increase in activity, etc. And WDW is nothing if not activity. THis is the reason that a job's short-term disability pays at least 6 weeks postpartum -- because that is how long the average woman needs to heal enough to perform job duties safely. They would not pay this if women were, at 4 weeks postpartum, well enough to work again. And this even includes desk jobs. That would CERTAINLY include anything that required standing/walking all day long.

With my fourth baby, I was in the emergency room with childbirth fever 5 weeks postpartum. It is not something to be taken lightly, and CAN get so bad due to too much exertion to soon after the birth. Death from childbirth fever used to be quite common.

Also, WDW is quite a germfest. My ped is pretty progressive ... and said we were fine taking baby out and about at 2 weeks old. BUT...not to really crowded places (where somone is most assuredly sick) and not around sick people. Do I think baby would be fine there? Certainly. Just would be concerned about health risk to mom and baby both.

The only reason I am giving an opinion is because I am seeing a potential risk that was not yet mentioned. DOn't want anything to put a mommy or baby back into a hospital!
