How young is too young for a flower girl?

My flower girl was almost 9. I'm sorry, but as far as my wedding was concerned, the flower girl is supposed to walk down the aisle dropping rose petals, not sashaying to the crowd for ooooohs and ahhhhs. Nor was she there to entertain the guests with "cutsie-ness" during our wedding. She had never been in a wedding before and was so excited to be our flower girl. We didn't think she was too old. She did an awesome job!!

Something else I just thought of after reading through the entire thread.

If the little one is familiar with where the wedding is to be held, no doubt it would all go a lot better.

Like I said earlier I had a 3yr old flower girl and she was just perfect. Did what she was supposed to do to perfection. But, I do think the fact that she was familiar with the church (parents being members) made a huge difference, I don't think it would have gone off quite as well had she not been familiar with her surroundings.

Plus her Dad was my organist and her Mum the soloist:goodvibes

My daughter was around 3 when she was a flower girl and the ring bearer was younger. Since she was older and the ring bearer was not as focused with walking down the aisle, she held his hand and I had watched both of them making sure that things had gone well.
Since the ring bearer at your son's wedding is older, he can walk with the little girl. But, if there is a rehearsal and she is well prepared it should be fine. Just have her mom or dad sit closer to the front of the church or such so that they are able to wave her down their way and then have the flower girl sit with them during the ceremony.

Truer words have not yet been spoken. I hadn't considered the fact that my sister, although she was 3, was taken to the same church each week for Mass in which I was married. It wasn't new to her and she was used to behaving in church.

My brother's kids, OTOH, when they were brought to my grandfather's funeral, were kept in the back of the church by their mother and because they weren't used to being in church, they were holy terrors. My SIL let them run around in the area behind the pews and play and squeal during the entire funeral Mass. The kids were 4 and 6 at that time. My kids are older than them and used to being in church. Their other grandmother watched them while we were at the ceremony and we picked them up for the after-breakfast where they could run around and act like kids.

I had my best friend's daughter as a flower girl and she was 2 and 10 months. She was great! Only two issues...she wouldn't let us put on her peach sash to match the bridesmaids...I told her mom and grandmom not to sweat it. During the ceremony, she walked back and forth from her mom who was up with me and her grandmom who was in a seat. It didn't register with me during the ceremony, but you can hear her cute little heel clicks on the video.

It was very important to me to have her in the wedding, no matter what happened. My little flower girl is 18 now!

My DD was a flower girl for her uncle when she was 2 years, 10 months old. DS was also in it, and he was 4 at the time. The "lovely" SIL thought they were British royalty. She had everyone's kids in the wedding.

Even though DD was quite shy, she did fine. The only problems were with the SIL, but that's a whole other story.

Not at all. Ours was almost that young. As long as you don't want her to do to much. Our flower girl and ring bearer had made for some very precious memories.
