How would you use these points?

We recently joined DVC (OKW - 270 pts). Right now we like to go to WDW during peak Easter season for 2 weeks (I know - very crowded - high points) because our 3 DD's have school vacation. We also like to go one week during beginning of Nov. or Dec. when our kids have a few days off. We did not purchase enough points to stay in a 2BR for those 3 weeks of the year. (We were fully aware of this before purchasing)

Anyway, here's my question. DH thinks we should always use our points at peak times along with another resort stay. He says we can probably get codes for our Nov/Dec stay at a resort or we can rent points for a DVC stay.

At first I thought we should use our points during the Nov/Dec stay & stay at a resort during peak times, but now I am wondering if he is making sense. He said considering the fact we will still have a "hotel" bill for our vacations, it would probably be less if we paid the rates during off season & used the points during peak season. What do you all think?

MELSMICE....I don't think I can help you much here. I understand the logic being applied, but frankly I joined DVC to handle my vacation accommodation needs. When I saw that we needed larger accommodations or longer stays, we went and got more points.

The codes are there now, but may not be so available in the future.

To me....if you think you will be purchasing a week or so of resort accommodations each year in addition to DVC....your probably better off just getting more points. It's the same logic that made DVC make sense in the first place.

I think that with 270 points and needing a 2 BR for 3 weeks, you are going to be sorely lacking. Even if you're planning on sqeezing into a studio or 1 BR for that time, you will not have enought points to do so. To stretch the 270 points your best bets will be to use codes for the weekends and for the off times. There will be less codes and less discounts for easter so unless you can find good discounts then, you are much better off using points then. You can always rent extra points.

Besides, this will give you the chance to experience the other resorts from time to time. Enjoy.

If you decide to rent points, be sure to start looking soon enough to use the 11 month booking window. November/December is a popular time for DVC members to visit (as is the Easter season), so you really need that booking window to ensure getting your family's first choice of accomodations and resort.

Good luck!
