1.5...my mom was that bad...my dad could make something on the grill if it was a hamburger or hot dog, but don't give him chicken.
Example of her cooking - take a whole chicken out of the package - throw it in the oven til it's dead and dryer than the Sahara...then open canned peas and fruit cocktail. Serve all on a plate. Dinner.
Notice I didn't mention seasoning or cook times or sauces...nope. So, 1.5 is earned. There are only 2 things I make now that my mom made, and I make them "in spirit" but not the way she did.
This, exactly.
My Mother was a phenomenal cook, baker, you name it. My friends still talk about her cooking. My Father didn’t cook while my parents were together, and even after that.

Dad = 2
He is limited to opening cans and plastic packages.
Mom = 8
She is a great, traditional, southern cook but lacks an adventurous spirit.
You did not ask, but...
My DS29 = 10++
He is an amazing cook and is great at flavors / spices.
He moved back home in 2020 when everything was shutting down and was out of work. I am going to be so sad when he moves out again and I have to start cooking again!
My mom, maybe a 4. My dad, all he ever did was grill burgers and when he was done you couldn’t tell them apart from the charcoal briquettes. So I’d say a 1.
My parents were both capable of 20 out of 10, and they frequently showed that talent.
But they also taught us to be satisfied with a simple tomato sandwich served on a paper towel.
My mom was a pretty good cook—maybe 8 out of 10. Very adventurous. We didn’t have many Mexican or Chinese restaurants in our area in the early 1970’s, but she would take cooking classes in different cuisines through our library or the local community college and make those meals at home. She loved trying new recipes. I didn’t give her a 10 because some things she cooked were lousy. I’ve never had worse scrambled eggs than the ones she made. She had a few other things like that.
My dad would grill (although my mom did a lot of grilling too) and he did fine with that. Otherwise he didn’t really do any cooking until my mother got Alzheimer’s. According to him he’s pretty good at it , but I’ve never eaten anything he’s prepared.
