How would you improve runDisney?

Now I’m starting to worry that all of the good natured ribbing I’ve given rD over the years for the Mile 20 Spectacular may have hurt their feelings and contributed to them no longer trying. Am I to blame for their embrace of the cookie cutter experience? :scratchin

I have a scan I can make of WDW Marathon map from 2006. Does anyone have MagicofRunning’s contact?

My first WDW marathon weekend was 2006 so while I've had some big gaps in participation I've seen a lot of the different iterations of runDisney. I was perfectly happy with the same medal every year like many races do. Maybe make small tweaks but my 2006 and 2008 Half medal is the exact same other than the ribbon and the dangler with the year.

If I had one wish it would be for more varied events. The weekends have become formulaic. I really miss the night time W&D. I did the first year and finishing the race and walking right into the after party is hands down the best runDisney experience I've had. There are plenty of opportunities for different types of events. A backyard ultra style race through the night is one along with bringing back the evening W&D. Spring Surprise was advertised as an opportunity to do something different each year and that should be different race formats, not just different themes.

They also need to fix merch. There is no reason they can't have some of the in demand items like the jackets that always sell out offered as a pre-purchase.

Springtime Surprise starting out as a weekend where a lot of possibilities were opened up and immediately turning into a weekend where the only surprise was the theme selection is a big one from me.

There was a possibility that I could have returned that weekend a few times, it works better with my work schedule, but I don’t see that happening now.

Bring back the Tower of Terror 10 miler and I’ll be there! Even better - run it at night again.

I so wanted to do the ToT 10 miler and never made it down while they were still doing it (I was still in divorce hell).
As for start corrals: they used to have us strung out down Epcot Center Dr, IIRC. I neither loved or hated it, it just was, but it did seem to work. When traffic held me up and I was delayed in arriving before race start in 2011, it wasn't a big deal to keep walking down the road, join a later corral and start the race.
The corrals, then the hairpin turn to go by the stage and start: I'm not a fan. Just a lot of shuffling and jockeying for position and going around an artificial obstruction.
The whole merch scene is crazy, ditto for apparently letting people buy it all up on Day 1 so they can resell it online.
And I'll nod in agreement that rD is a victim of its own success, plus small staffing, plus getting big-footed by the parks. They haven't quite ticked enough of us off that we don't go [raises hand], similar to the parks.
Sounds like they've been successful in pulling people into the resorts and parks in otherwise down weekends, and now seem to be thinking that the runners are now in the way, as opposed to being the reason for those days being more attended than they otherwise would be. Getting cause and effects backwards...

I definitely feel like MW for sure has become a caricature of itself, ever since coming back from COVID. 2022 was calmer since the field sizes were smaller and rD was trying to figure things out with the social distancing. Since 2023 it’s become a social media/influencer circus, and the bib chip thing really hammered it home this year.
