How would YOU fix the Childs Menu "Problem"

Some healthy choices (say 2), some traditional choices (say 2), but adapted as it is possible to remove or reduce the level of transfats in they, and then some scaled down veriosn of the adult meals (say about 3 or 4 dependant on the resturuant).

We are paying way too much money for DDP to have to spend even more money for something for our child to eat!!!

Why not just skip the dining plan then and pay for all your meals? Would it cost more or less to do this? I'm not sure but at least you will all be eating what you like.

Below is a sample of another part of the childrens menu I got off of the All Ears Net Website (it is called the NEW Generic kids menu from around the world). They have two ways of ordering, either as a combined meal or you can order your Appetizer, Entree & Dessert separately, this is called "Kids Picks". As you will see under dessert, you can get fruit salad or ice cream sundae. You can also get Mac and cheese or spaghetti and meatballs.

My daughter who is 8 years old, would be able to order from this menu. She would not however be able to order from the combined menu.

KIDS PICKS MENU:
Appetizers: Vegetable Salad OR Chicken Noodle Soup
Entrees: Macaroni and Cheese OR Spaghetti and Meatballs
Desserts: Fruit Salad OR Ice Cream Sundae

Anyways - I feel a smaller portion of select restaurant entree's - a steak at steak places, italian at Tony's, etc... smaller versions of that restaurants favorites....
I think in order for that to be a viable option, they have to have two prices on each offering: Regular Portion (say $18), Smaller Portion (say $12) and discounted price for Smaller Portion for children 3-9 (say $7). By having the two prices for the Smaller Portion on each menu item, and having them specific to age with no other difference, they can avoid the situation where older children or adults order the kids meal to save money -- something which must invariably lead to degradation of the overall quality of the offerings.

I think ...and this would have been best for me, as my "kids" are now "adults" at WDW.

And maybe, if they wanna be real nice - always have something "basic" along with it. Man & Cheese and Chicken Nuggets, or something.

Thats what I think.

Ill tell you - Im thrilled my kids are "adults" at 11 & 15! There isnt any way in heck they would have eaten the current choices. NONE!
I agree 100% :thumbsup2 . My kids are 2 & 6 and the 6 yr. old would love smaller serving of adult entree's and 2 YO likes kiddie food like mac & cheese and chicken nuggets. I don't want my kids to eat junk their whole vacation but now the choices are a bit limited. I would probably just pay OOP and skip the dining plan. DD6 eats very little and could even share with one of us adults. My DD would not be eating macaroni and spaghetti every night and only fruit or ice cream for dessert :confused3 . Talk about keeping costs down!

I think they should have a few generic type food served at every restaraunt, things like burger, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets w/fries. They should also offer smaller versions of maybe 3 or so of items off the regular menu. For appetizers I think a small salad, bowl of soup, or a fruit/veggie plate you be OK. For dessert ice cream of some kind, a peice of cake/pie, or a fruit plate w/dip. I think what they had before at most TS places was fine.

Ditto.

I think Disney needs to include both traditional and healthy choices on the kids menu. Seems simple enough, then everyone will be happy.

Also, all desserts need to be served at the end of the meal, just like the adults. I cannot see children sitting quietly watching their parents and older siblings enjoy a special dessert! They are going to want one too! I don't see how anyone could have thought this was a good idea! Sure you can share, but most adults order "adult" desserts and kids will want a "kid" dessert.

This package was booked in January (when the menus hadn't gone crazy) and is already paid for. It includes 4 adults and 1 child - there is no problem with the adult stuff.

The bottom line is - this is Disney and kids are in INTERGRAL part of the Disney experience. Keep them happy (this IS supposed to be the HAPPIEST place on earth, right?).

I have heard that is why they are doing this - GREAT idea!! :thumbsup2

Wasn't the first report we saw of the new kids menu from Sci Fi? And then someone chimed in that Tony's has it too?

That's the new menu, I was refering to the old menu :thumbsup2
Appetizers

Carrot and Celery Sticks with Ranch Dressing $1.99
Fruit and Cheese with a Mango Yogurt Dip $1.99

Entrees includes a beverage: milk, chocolate milk, Coca-Cola Classic, Diet Coke, Sprite, Orange or Pink Lemonade

Grilled Chicken Breast roasted potatoes and green beans $5.99
Macaroni and Cheese $4.99
Hamburger served with fries $4.99
Chicken nuggets with fries $4.99

Have your drink served in a glow-in-the-dark souvenir cup with a glow cube $5.99

Dessert

Chocolate Gems Sundae $2.99
Fresh Fruit Cup $2.29

See it had a nice variaty including what Sci-Fi does best: Hamburgers. It does need 1 or 2 more choices.

That's what I was trying to clarify. Your post said 'Sci Fi has a good menu at the moment"

At the moment Sci Fi has the new complained about kids menu. Unless you're at DIsney now and they've changed again. The menu you posted is a decent mix, but besides the apps the only remotely healthy thing on it is the chicken.Overall, considering Sci Fi is a burger joint that's not bad. But it's not the 'new' complained about one reported from Sci Fi starting at the end of Sept.

Thanks for clarifing that you meant their old menu, not the current one.

How about keeping it like regular adult menus found anywhere, only smaller portions?

Have a half-dozen "main" entrees, i.e., burger, grilled or fried chicken, pizza, steak, fish, etc., then a little selection of sides, i.e., fries, salad, mac & cheese, rice, veggie medley that the kids/parents can pick, say, two from.

I think a child should have 7 choices at each restaurent that participates.

2 choices should be "fixed" like chicken nuggets, fries, applesauce, and dessert or pasta, veggie, bread, and dessert

2 choices should be fixed and healthy: grilled chicken, mac/cheese, fruit and dessert or soup/salad/sandwich combo with veggit and dessert

3 choices should be smaller portions of whatever is on the adult menu: If you are at a pizza place, offer pizza, or whatever you might have.

This should be the same for QS and TS restaurants.

they should also do this for children ages 3-12.

I somewhat agree.

Choice of a couple appetizers.

How about 7 entrees to choose from, 3 from the 'theme', 2 'healthy' (but they've got to learn how to grill chicken, the times my dd had it, it was disgustingly dry!) and 2 'traditional'. The healthy and traditional do not have to be the same at every restaurant.

Then a choice of two sides from maybe 6 options, including healthy, fries, and fruit. (And could you make the mashed pototatoes plain, no garlic, no skin?)

Then a choice of dessert. If you could always include choc ice cream, my life would be easier. :rotfl:

That would only work if Disney was willing to enforce the age restriction on the menu.

OH NO! What is that?! Just kidding! :rotfl:

Oh my!!! :rotfl: I missed that!

Yeah - the "man and cheese" - I'd prefer that on the Adult Menu. :thumbsup2

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I think the restaurants should offer kid-friendly versions of the restaurant's theme- (ie pasta with simple sauces @ Alfredos), in addition to a universal (the same at all restaurants) section of basic "kid food"- mac & cheese, chicken tenders- a mix of healthy and "fun" options.

DCL, for instance, has amazing menus at each place you eat, but every menu also includes a section (the same at each place- if I remember correctly, it includes things like chicken breast and salmon) for those who are a bit less adventurous, or just don't like anything on that night's menu.

I think doing the combination would work for a wide range of kids, from the ones who just want kid-sized versions of the exotic food their parents are eating in World Showcase, to the kids who like to eat chicken strips at every single meal of the trip.

Wow, I can get both a *man* and *cheese* from Disney? Dreams really DO come true there! :rotfl:

I think that the kids menu should have as many options as the adults menu. Or, let them choose from the adult menu in Kids Size portions. I think that one of the previous people got it right. Many Corporate places are doing fabulous things with their menu. The kids can choose from a variety of main menu items, then select their side. We are very aware of what our DD eats, but we also realize that there are many kids that do not like to eat the weird things she likes to eat like Sashimi. Each child is different and hopefully the restaurants will accomodate them. I would not be happy to go to a place to eat and there was nothing on the menu for my DD to eat. She usually is okay, but I have seen and heard of children very upset becasue foods they were familiar with were not available.
