How would you describe your experiences with police?

I'm an white guy, I've literally have been pulled over and after they check my ID apologize and see me off

As a private citizen I haven't had an interaction with Police since 1976. Got a speeding ticket.

Retired almost 2 years ago, dealt with Police several times a week in my job. Mostly good relationship.

I use to work for a small printing company that was owned by a cop. He was the biggest jerk I’ve ever met. Treated his wife like crap. Cheated on her. One time she caught him on their boat with another woman. He was naked and actually ran off the boat that way and down the dock to his car. He was arrested for drunk driving after driving down the wrong side of the road. Idiot!

My uncle was a policeman, a mounted policeman. When my mom and I would go by his beat, he would let me pet his horse and give it an apple. Other than that, I have had absolutely no interaction with the police.

I have many family members and friends that are police officers and I don’t break the law so my experiences have been pleasant.

They have always treated me as I deserved to be treated.

Except the one that pulled me because I was young, keeping up with 60 mph rush hour bumper to bumper traffic in a 45. I think he should have chosen one of the several older folk who were in the left lane passing me and everyone else at a much higher speed.

More than half of my (quite few) interactions with police in my lifetime have been unpleasant, IME too many officers seem to be on a power trip and more interested in ordering people around than treating them with respect.

One that has stuck with me for almost 40 years, as a young woman driving in an unfamiliar city (before the days of Google maps) there was a police car making a left turn onto a street and I made a left turn after him. He got out and started screaming at me. I had no idea what I had done wrong, apparently it was a bus lane only, which I had never heard of. I had out of state plates and instead of explaining the violation I was just yelled at and reduced to tears. I would have preferred a polite ticket than all his anger.

I make it a point to avoid police officers as much as possible. I have seen enough body cam videos of aggressive traffic stops, approaching people with guns drawn and yanking them out of cars for no reason, or instead of pulling over a car just ramming into it (it was a mistaken identity, oops!), I do not trust police at all.

As a former social worker, MOSTLY positive. I only remember ONE bad experience w/an officer who was incredibly dismissive and caused me to get into a situation that could have been very dangerous.

Mine have been department dependent. No issues with any department other than the Minneapolis Police Department. But with them I've been singled out due to my skin color, perceived socio-economic status, been given illegal orders and not been useful when I or my family have needed them. In my years in the suburbs, with county or state LE or since I moved to WI, no issues at all.

The times I have been pulled over, it was fine. At work I deal with them or deputies from the jails frequently, and 90% of them are nice to me. The other 10% are real jerks. I see how the inmates are treated at the jails, which are usually overseen by the sheriff, and it's deplorable for the most part. I've also observed (not me personally, but someone in my life) law enforcement who are more concerned with getting a conviction than actual justice.

I have had both good and bad. I've been pulled over a couple fo times, with very courteous and professional officers giving me my ticket or even letting me off with a warning. All good there. Once, my buddy got rear-ended in his new car and the perpetrator pulled off and left. He needed a police report for insurance, so we waited and waited and waited. Finally some cops rolled by and I waved them down. They were immediately aggressive, asking if I was trying to flag them down or if I was "just a nut." Come on man, we've been waiting for an officer for hours! Take the dang report already. Sometimes I do see where police come into a situation with an attitude like that, though for the most part I have found them to be professional.
