How wet do you get on these rides?

Hi all -
Can anyone share with me their experiences about how wet you can get on rides such as Splash Mountain, or Atlantis at SW or any of the other water rides like one at AK?

Will only of those lightweight cheapy Walmart rain ponchos get us dry enough we won't need a change of clothes?

Not sure you ever have a choice of where you can sit in the cars (other amusement parks often let you wait to get a particular seat but Disney might not) but in any case is there a seat on the rides like Splash Mt where you are less likley or more likely to get drenched (ie front vs. middle vs. back)?

Thanks for any insight on trying to stay as dry as possible.

Splash Mountain really depends where you are sitting. Front end of the log gets more wet than the back. Sometimes I have come off drenched, sometimes barely wet. Journey to Atlantis we got wet but not soaked. Kali River Rapids is a soaker. I had on my light beige Columbia sporty shorts and found out the hard way that they're see-through after a Kali ride (loved it though). I don't think a poncho would help with Kali because the water comes right into the tube and you're sitting up higher than you do in a log ride.

I may be in the minority but I have never gotten too wet on Splash Mountain ( but I have seen people come off soaked !). I'm not sure why I've been spared. I think you should be fine with just a cheap Walmart poncho. Remember to tuck it in at the sides so your "seat" isn't exposed !

Now Atlantis was nuts !! We were SOAKED ! My husband had his cell phone in a holster and it was ruined after this ride. After the drop ( not where you expect it) there was another very small dip but the water just poured in the sides of the boat and we walked around with wet shorts for the rest of the day !

Again, if you wear a poncho make sure you tuck it in all around you !!

Here is my DS and a friends DS after they got off of Atlantis in Sept.

It's all about the water cannons !!!!

On Splash, the water cannon soak you before you make the climb upwards (about 1.5 minutes into the ride). Of course, you can also get wet at the bottom of the big drop.

On Atlantis...we stayed dry through the ride. We were dry right up to the area where spectatots (for $.25) can shoot the water cannons at you. My wife soaked me !!

Have fun...both are great rides. Buy a Poncho for $7.00 and keep it with you.

On Splash you might get very wet if you are in the front, otherwise you just get some splash. Kali River Rapids on the other hand, you might just as well jump into a pool with your clothes on.

Usually we get wet in spots on Splash Mtn but two weeks ago I get very wet. As I recall it was mostly from the splash of another car coming down. You will almost always sit in a small puddle on the seat. I am of the opinion that you get wettest in the front row. CMs have always gone along with my request to 'not sit in the front row'.

I always wear a $1.00 poncho on Kali. I still get a little wet but I don't get soaked.

Splash Mountain seems to get wet every other log. On Kali avoid the third seat on the right, I was SOAKED! by the time it was over.

splash mountain you will either be only a bit wet in the back or soaked to the bone wet in the back. There is a spot shortly into the ride that gets the splash over from boats coming down the drop and it only hits certain boats. We were oh so lucky to get drenched in the back seat.

As everyone else has said on Splash it depends on where you sit. In the back not as wet.
I've done river rapids in AK a couple of times and got soaked both. From what I can see, just about everybody does. If you don't want to get wet (which takes out the fun) wear a poncho. :rotfl:

I have to disagree with the back of the log not getting as wet on Splash. When we rode it, I was the wettest out of everyone on the log and was sitting in the back row. We got splashed when another log went down and the front of the log didn't get wet from that at all.

Okay, I have to assume this is a joke. :) The Kali rafts are round and constantly spin and move so there is no way to know who will end up wet. There are two spots where you can potentially get SOAKED - just over the first hill there is a huge geyser that goes off randomly (though it's ON most of the time), and at the bottom of the big hill about 3/4 through the ride. If you're going down straight backward or straight forward, you WILL get soaked - like water over the head soaked. You might also get sprayed by the elephants waiting to unload at the end, but it's not a soaking. There is no way to know - I've been on Kali and come off practically dry and other times my clothes have been wet all day. It always feels great though in the hot weather.

The best way to stay dry on Kali is not to ride it!

That is the water cannon DIS-NH mentioned. It's not actually a splash from the other boat, but it's timed to look like it is when watching the ride. It goes off usually every third boat, and if you've come around that bend outside and are to the left of the drop (looking at Splash from the bridge in front of it), you'll get hit. Some cooler times of the year this cannon is turned off, however, so you may get lucky. We've learned to listen for the cannon as we come around that part of the ride and count the boats so we can be prepared if we're going to get hit.

On splash mountain, if you sit in the front you may get wet, it all depends on how much weight is up there, I am 225lb dh and my 75 dd were up there 1 time in particular and my wife sat behind us, we all got drenched. But we also went in the last row with small children up front and barely got wet.

good luck

Splash Mountain gets you less wet than the others,at Journey to Atlantis as someone else said after the big drop but before it goes back up the next hill there's a dip that especially if you're sitting in the front seat as the boat does the dip water comes in right over the front of the boat and soaks your lower half.At Kali it's all luck if you'll end up soaked or very wet,but chances are you will leave at least very wet.I think Popeye and Bluto Bilge Rat Barges at Islands of Adventure is one of the wettest water rides in Orlando.

It is all a function of the water canon on Splash - both coming round to the climb up and when you go down the main drop. They seem to have it turned up stronger sometimes more than others. Usually, in December it is not too bad, but in Dec 2006 it got me soaked.

As someone else has already said, Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges at IoA is by far the wettest ride in Orlando, Jurassic Park at IoA is pretty wet too, with Dudley Do-Rights Ripsaw Falls at IoA third.
Journey to Atlantis at SW is pretty wet and Kali Rapids at AK is about the same, Splash is the least wet ride in Orlando I think. Although Kali Rapids is wettest at Disney. Don't forget you'll also get wet in the front half of the Shamu stadium and possibly on the left hand side of the back lot tour truck.

We were pretty lucky, we got a little wet, but not soaked on Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids. On the Kali ride, it depends on where you sit. Some riders will get very wet while others may not.

However........at Univeral Studios Islands of Adventure, we got totally soaked on the Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls flume ride. There is absolutely no way to avoid getting soaked.

Also, at Busch Gardens Tampa, on the Congo River Rapids, you can get pretty drenched especially if you get hit by water from the water cannons that are shot by spectators along the river. When I was shooting the water cannons, I scored a direct hit on a Yankees fan. (Red Sox fan here). I knocked off his NY cap. Everyone watching seemed to enjoy that.

I have gotten anywhere from splashed a bit to pretty wet on Splash, but rode Kali on my last trip and was drenched...soaked to the skin, and it was very uncomfortable to the point where I don't know if I ever want to ride it again. The friend I was with was barely wet.

On Kali River Rapids, it doesn't depend on which seat you are in. It depends on how that seat ends up when you get to the 'wet' spots. That part is random - it depends on how the boat spins.
This is a picture of my DH and DD on Kali just before the wall of water hit them. DD uses a wheelchair and we always lift her into the same seat relative to the wheelchair boarding area (we put her in the seat that is closest). On some rides (like the time this picture was taken), she gets soaked, on other rides she just gets splashed and someone else gets soaked.

So true!

Last time I was there me and BF were on the raft with two girls sitting opposite us (just the four of us). When we got to the drop we were going down facing backwards, and the girls were laughing hysterically, because we all knew that it was me and BF who were going to get soaked... until the raft slowly turned in the other direction on the descent and they got soaked instead :rotfl2:

I love it when that happens and I don't get soaked (don't like it when DD gets soaked either because I have to change her).
