How Wet do you get on Kali Rapids?

Just wondering how soaked do you get? I know it depends on the weight of the raft, but do they have points where it just dumps water from above? I'm wondering if it's worth being drenched for the rest of the day.

If you are in the right seat you will get soaked, drenched, completely wet. On the other hand, there are other seats where you may get just a drop or two. the biggest amount of water is from going down hill to the bottom and a wave comes over the raft. But there are places where water shoots over the raft and can get anyone

I rode it twice. The first time, I was soaked. It looked like I just climbed out of the swimming pool. For the second time, I had a small splash and that was it.

Prepare to be very wet--just in case!

Well, I don't know how much weight has to do with it, but my DH and I were the biggest people on our ride (there were 8 in total) and we were the ones who got showered...drenched in water! It was worse than a shower! I was absolutely dripping wet and wondering what the heck had happened! :teeth:

We did see loads of people going on the ride with plastic mac's on.

It was fun but I wouldn't do it again I don't think, it takes forever to dry off in Animal Kingdom in September, the humidity is crazy!

My DD4 and I got completely soaked through. Ummm....we had to leave the park she was so wet and cold. My DH and DS3 were on the other side and had only a few drops. It was an awesome ride!

You know the casino game, roullette? The one with the wheel and the little ball. The wheel spins around and around and the ball eventually falls into one of the numbered spaces on the wheel.

Well, Kali is a lot like that when it comes to getting wet. Sure, there are several opportunities to get a little wet throughout the ride, but one (sometimes two) person gets the major soak at the bottom of the drop. It's always the person who has his/her back to the drop (in other words, is facing backwards during the drop) that gets drenched.

So, as you spin about in those last few yards before the drop, beware if you are the one it "stops" on just before you go down. That person will get soaked.

I always seem to end up on the side of the raft that gets that great big wave right over my head!!!! I hate walking around with wet undies!!! :rotfl2:

It's gotten to the point that I refuse to get on Kali if I don't bring my dollar store poncho with me.

Last time I did it, it left me cold and shivering all day long, I was miserable.

I agree with DavidR, I buy the thin plastic ponchos from the dollar store, sometimes they come two to a package. Who cares if you look  nerdy, put the hood up! Tuck it in tightly under your legs and enjoy! After you ride, you can always toss it out or you can shake it out and tightly roll it and stash it in a sandwich size ziplock bag. When you get back to your hotel, hang it up to dry and put it back in the ziplock to use again the next day for Splash! I also keep one in my bag for the days that look like rain is possible.

We rode it 4 straight rides – we figured after the first time we couldn’t get any wetter. Out of 4 rides, my dd and I went down that hill backwards 3 times. We then went and got our bag of dry clothes out from under the stroller, went into the restroom right next to the ride and changed. I don’t think I would ever take the chance until I either 1) had a change of clothes or 2) was ready to leave for the day.

Yes, sometimes you get lucky and get 2 or 3 to a $1 package. Great deal.

My favorite was a pink one, I got weird looks from people sometime. The occasional CM comment too. I just said it was my "princess pink poncho" which usually left them speechless. I guess my very short buzzcut and goatee doesn't normally give that image :)

we rode it twice in a row last Wednesday, we were one of the first rafts out when it opened at 9:30, and I got a little damp but not bad. there was no line, so we got on again right away since DD5 LOVED it. She had been feeling left out since she's scared of the big rides, but thought this one was great. the 2nd time around, I got the big huge wall of water down my back. soaked through everything, I could wring water out of my underwear. It was only really clammy for the first 20 min or so, then took a few hours for everything to dry out completely. It was so hot that day that it didn't bother me to be wet.

I went in December, and I was *soaked*. When I got off the ride , everyone was staring at me and dozens of people lef the line to go on once they saw, you really could get SOAKED. No one in the boat got it half as bad as I did, but everyone did get pretty wet. I had not one dry spot. I was on the side of the raft that angles down when you go down the hill and a wave literally went right over my head. I had to go back to the resort in a hurry or I would have frozen to death, as it was a chilly day to begin with. In fact, I had bought a sweatshirt that morning bc my long sleeved top wasn't keeping me warm enough. It was my worst mistake of that trip! I was expecting it to be more like Splash Mountain level wetness, and it's totally not!

As far as weight goes, I'm certainly not a skinny Minnie by any stretch, but my boyfriend and another man in the raft clearly outweighed me by a significant amount. The others were fairly thin.

I love rides, so I might do it again- but only in summer, and only with a poncho and with a relaxed schedule so I could go home and change. I would not do Kali before an ADR or meeting friends or taking pictures or anything.

Here's my theory:

Whoever is facing backwards (looking up that slide) at the moment the raft impacts the deeper water WILL GET SOAKING WET.

The raft digs into the deeper water and a massive wave dumps over the 2 poor guests in those seats. Other passengers might get a litle wet.

If you are sitting in the right seat you will get soaked like I did-twice. I don't go on that ride any more. :)

Exactly! :thumbsup2

We did the ride in March, and I was lucky enough to stay really dry, but I honestly didn't think the ride was that great! We got to the end, and I thought....that's it? :confused3

I did, on the other hand, get absolutely drenched to the skin on Splash once on the same trip. That big water cannon thing got our whole log! When we got off, absolutely dripping wet, the people next to get on our log were shocked....the grandmother nearly turned and walked away! ;)

Whoever is on my raft can breath a sigh of relief because I'm the one that always gets soaked . One time I actually bought a sundress because my clothes wouldn't dry and I was really uncomfortable.

I'm glad it's not just me! I got completely soaked on Kali yesterday, and I mean soaked. Went straight to a restroom to wring out all my clothes, and then spent ten minutes under the hand dryer, trying desperately to dry my butt under there once my shirt was dry. Apologies to anyone who may have been forced to watch my contortions!

As for the weight, I am 5'7" and weigh 120 pounds, my DH is 5'9" and weighs 155 pounds. We're always the ones who get soaked!! :teeth:

That sounds like a challenge! Trust me, you want to go on with me, I promise you wont get wet!!!! My DH & DS5 thinks it's very funny that Momma gets completely soaked everytime. Wet underwear for the rest of the day, that's always a guarantee at AK.

We barely got wet at all the one and only time we went on. That being said however, we have a similar ride at our local amusement park (Kennywood) and DD and I always manage to be the ones under the waterfall and drenched. My DS8 insists that if you sit in the seat that has the boat # on the back you will not get wet (don't ask me where he heard this :confused3 ) but when we went on Kali last summer he was angling for that seat and got it. DD explained to all our fellow passengers why he wanted that particular seat - we all got a good laugh, until the end of the ride --- he didn't get a drop on him. So now, I think all those people we rode with will be trying for the "magic seat".
