How Wet Am I Going To Get?

My daughter would love to get soaked, but I just want the fun without getting wet. Will having a poncho on help prevent from getting soaked? If not, I may need to develop a different touring plan with the consideration of how soaked we will get.

Thanks for the great info!

Poncho usefulness:
Jurassic Park--Very Effective. Wearing a poncho will keep you mostly dry. Your face may get wet.

Ripsaw Falls--moderate at best. Sit in the front (if you fit!) and get your feet as far in as possible. If you're lucky, you won't get too wet and your feet might not get that wet at all. Your face may get wet. Sit anywhere else in the log and your legs and feet may get wet. If you use a cheap poncho, disregard this message. Cheap ponchos are mostly useless on this ride.

Popeye & Blutos--worthless.

One Fish Two Fish--Very effective. Sit on the inside (if you can) and fly your fish well. You may not get too wet.

I will confess....

I wear ponchos on water rides... I wrap it around my waist to keep my lower parts dry(er)

I dont mind a wet top...

But the bottom bits like it nice and dry :lmao:

I didnt see the above posts...

if you wrap a poncho around your waist, and then wear another one on top you can stay dry on blutos :-)

I've been on Jurassic Park River Adventure a million times in my lifetime and have never gotten too wet. However, I DID go on Ripsaw Falls on my recent trip 2 weeks ago to the parks. It was my first time going on it and I only did because my friend who was with me basically begged me to ride this. Well, bad idea, as I wore skinny jeans and a tshirt, shoes, and a hat. I got completely, and I mean COMPLETELY soaked!!! I did end up sitting in the last seat on the ride, so I'm not sure if that makes much of a difference. Just do yourself a favor and DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT wear jeans.

I've actually invested in convertible hiking pants just for wet rides.

Lands End/LL Bean sell some nice thin water-cargo shorts...they are perfect! You are dry within 10 minutes of walking around, with no loss of comfort! :goodvibes We always wear something like this when we visit US/IOA....usually on top, I wear something light, but supportive, with a built-in bra (Nike and other sport brands sell some good tops like these), and water-proof ECCO sandals on my feet. I can easily walk onto any water ride, get soaked, and be dry within minutes! I, for one, refuse to give up the water rides, especially when it's hot outside! :woohoo:

I actually found my poncho to be very effective and we rode Popeye and Dudley Do right 2-3 times each. The key is that you have to hold the poncho closed so that water doesn't go in your arm holes or down your neck. This is not that easy to do! Also, you have to be very careful about how you stand up because your lap will be a huge pool of water caught in your poncho.

I wore Keens, so it didn't matter that my feet/shoes were soaked.

DD did not do a good job of holding her poncho closed, so she got water down the neck hole and soaked her back. We still had a great time getting drenched.

We didn't wear ponchos on Jurrasic. It seemed only the front rows got sprayed, and only in your face and hair. It was hot enough that we didn't mind.

You will get soo drenched. However, last time we went on Bilge rat barges somehow I was the only one to get absolutely soaked, everyone else just got a light spray! And I was the only one not wearing a rain mac... (and it was November and freezing). So you may get lucky or totally unlucky, but i'd prepare for the worst. Flip flops are the best!

you will feel like a drowned rat. you will look like a drowned rat. but you will be in a happy fun place. :thumbsup2

Hi fellow CO DISer!! :wave2:

I am reading all this and laughing, but wondering, what about handbag or purses? I really didn't want to get a locker. It is advisable to get one of those large ziplock bags and put our handbag in that to keep it dry on these rides?

Please advise as I have never been to Universal and just want to be prepared.

Wondered this myself. DS has an expensive camera. It's in a case and i got ziplock bags and then thought we'd put that in a trash bag...will that be ok? Hate going to a locker to stow it, but we will if need be.

I would make sure that poncho gets tucked under you really well and that the sides of it are closed. I found on Popeye that as much water came through between the seats soaking our behinds and legs as came from above on the water falls. Every person on our raft was completely SOAKED!!! I don't think we got any less wet on Ripsaw Falls. I would definitely either rides those last (this was our strategy) or bring a change of clothes. They are loads of fun though!

That's what I did with my wallet and cell phone. Just make sure to close the ziplock!

This is my 1st time.....so excited:banana: but want to be prepared too!

I m thinking of doing all the wet rides in last and go straight to our onsite hotel. Is this the right way or does it get little cold towards the evening?(Travelling in JUN)

Camera question:I will be carrying my digital camera. Will it be OK to put it in couple of ziplock bags?Should I buy one waterproof camera also?

Last one:I will have 2 strollers.Where do we keep them while we go for rides?

That's what happened to us. I remember what seemed like a ton of water rushing around our waists and we were basically just sitting in water for a few moments. I muttered that I planned to bring scuba gear the next time.

I believe that there are areas specified for parked strollers. I've never taken small kids to Universal but I'm pretty sure that I've seen them.

If you can, wear actually swimming clothes. I walked out a pair of pants while we were there. That was a long day without one of the seams on the inside of my capris!

Unless you are worried about your hair, I'd just wear water-friendly clothes and don't hold back!! Water rides are a lovely way to cool off! There was once, me and my DSs rode Blutos four times in a row (we had FOTL) it's such fun!!

Popeye and Blutos!!:banana: I love this ride when it's hot out!! We will go on it over & over with the FOTL and never get tired of it, or leave with a dry spot!!!!

We went in late Sept and there were NO lines. We finished the ride and there were only a couple of people in lines so we asked if we could just stay put and go again and they let us. It's a bit random on who gets *really* wet but by the 2nd time we were all covered. When we came back around, there was still no line! They let us and the folks in the boat stay for yet another ride. SO much fun. It was even funnier to see the looks on peoples faces that were getting in the boat after us - they couldn't believe how wet we were but didn't know we had gone 3 times in a row. We were drenched. I had planned this to be our last ride so we walked back to the car to towels :)
