How well does Oragel work? (ie help I need to get a tooth out)

Actually 2 teeth

DD5 bottom front teeth are loose and the permanent teeth are coming in behind them--actually quite far back from the line of teeth--so this IS a problem, they are impeding her adult teeth. The perm teeth have already erupted past their crowns. The baby teeth are both so loose that if you bend them forward they will stick there.

She won't wiggle them and she wanted me to yank them out, but is afraid and cries that it hurts.

Is Oragel strong enough to numb the gum enough for me to wiggle them out? They just need a bit of wiggling.....

Oh I know I will get 'take her to the dentist' answers...There is a 6 month wait for her dentist...the appointment we made in August is coming up at the end of January! but alas these should come out now, so the adult teeth won't be harmed any further

:laughing:I think she needs to pull her own teeth. I have a no-tooth-pulling policy. I have never pulled my children's teeth, not even for Christian (and he is severely mentally handicapped!) And you can bet they are handsomely rewarded for their bravery by the tooth fairy. Give her an apple, some cornbread, some caramel, etc. I once lost a back tooth when I pit into a chocolate Turtle!

She's 5yo, a big girl. Let her figure it out.

I did agree with that UNTIL her teeth started to come in SEVERELY behind the baby teeth, as in they are not aligned with the other teeth because her baby teeth are in the way.

We've done apples, apples, apple, 2 pecan turtles, more apples...did I say apples?

She knows she will get $$$ when they come out..she tried she really did.

I would just let it go, but I don't want her teeth to be messed up.

I would think oragel might be strong enough. I don't think you have to go to the dentist to yank a couple baby teeth hanging on by the skin. If it were me, like pp said, kid needs to do it herself. Not that big of a deal. Sounds like they are real close. Im afraid if you give her the oragel to get the baby teeth out, you are in for some rougher times ahead when molars are to come out or having to go to the dentist. My dd13 wasn't thrilled about pulling her hanging-by-the-skin tooth out, but she eventually did it on her own. I just give her a peice of papertowel to put over the tooth and tell her to pull.:goodvibes Good luck:hug:

I just read this post...if she has already tried then, yep I would oragel her up and yank. Try and let the oragel sit for a minute or so first though.:goodvibes

If her dentist can't see her for six months, you need to find a new dentist. All dentists should have emergency slots built into their schedules. I've even had my dentist see me at 7:30 at night because I was in pain.

I would not be yanking teeth out with only orajel (10% benzocaine) for an anesthetic -- it's just not strong enough. (Putting my pharmacist hat on here.) Are you sure that it's the baby teeth causing the problem? It could just be the way her jaw is shaped.

its been years since i've used oragel, but why don't you put a little bit on your gum and see how numb it feels? i recall it getting pretty numb but i can't say for sure.
