The DCL website says you must be able to swim......but how well? How proficient does an 8 year old need to be?

It is definitely possible to fall off, as that happened to my DH (although he was only holding on with one hand at the time). You wear a life vest, and they stop immediately, so you would have to swim well enough to keep yourself afloat and get to the boat when it stops for you.

Plus they need to be comfortable in the water in case they take a good spill and go under. I'm sure they'll be fine

I went on the Banana Boat and our whole boat tipped over. One should feel very, very comfortable in the water before going on this ride. Believe me, it is not easy to get back on the boat once you fall off. You need to have great upper body strength. One lady could not get back on the boat and was picked up by the driver.

Have fun!!
