How was this possible and should I write a letter?

We just returned from POR. We booked and paid for a room for 5. water view. When we got there to check in, I asked if they were able to meet any of our requests. I figured we would get AB section because we had 5: 1st floor (medical reasons for DH)
When she looked at our reservation, the CM said "oops we have you booked in a room for 4 in the mansions." "We will give you a "free" roll away."
(still trying to figure out how that would be considered free when you pay for 5 on the website.)
I was disapointed about the no trundle, but she explained that the hotel was completely sold out. They gave us a room in bldg 95 which she said was a great location and it truly was.
(housekeeping was horrible, and yes we tipped everyday. Now I am unsure why. There was mold on the shower, I caught the maid putting dirty sheets on our bed etc.but I was too scared to move rooms.) Should I send a letter about that?

Also my second question for you seasoned dis people is: If we wanted to try a deluxe next time: say at WL. Can you book for 4 and pay for a roll away for the 5th? When you try to book online it says we have too many in our party. All our kids are over 3yrs. How was this possible?:confused3

Your insight is greatly appreciated.

I don't think so, the WL and AKL standard rooms have a maximum occupancy of 4 people .

yes that is what I thought too, but supposedly this room only accomodated 4 people, or are all rooms at POR allowed to hold 5?:)

WL and AKL will not allow more than four in a standard room. You wouldn't be able to fit a rollaway anyways in the WL rooms. Too Small! You will have to stick with POR or move up to one of the deluxes like Poly, GF, BC/YC or BWI. OF course you could go for a one bedroom at OKW, SSR or any of the other DVC resorts. They now have Animal Kingdom Villas, so that could work for your family. And of course, I do believe they have suites at WL and AKL.

Sorry about your experience with the POR. They must have overbooked the 5 people rooms. I would write a letter because you booked a specific category (I don't remember if it costs more for the trundle bed rooms or they just put you in that because of the 5 people). I would be dissappointed too and I think it can't really hurt to let Disney know you were dissappointed.

"We will give you a "free" roll away."

Did you actually have to pay an additional amount for the extra person, or was it a child that would have been included for free? If you forked out any extra bucks to specifically have a trundle bed, I would write a letter asking for a refund of that portion. Even though they provided a rollaway, it isn't what you wanted or paid for.

I caught the maid putting dirty sheets on our bed etc.but I was too scared to move rooms.) Should I send a letter about that?

That's just gross! I'm curious, how did you know they were dirty? I would definitely write about the housekeeping issues.

Were they just making your bed with the used sheets that were already on it? If so, then that is their current policy. Unless you specifically request that you want your sheets changed every day, they only change them every fourth day after you check in (obviously, you will have clean sheets at check in - at least we hope so!). The other days, they make the bed with the sheets you are already using. If you "soil" the sheets in some way, they should change them out also.

If you actually saw them take the existing sheets off and put on new sheets that were not clean, then I would definitely write in about that.

If housekeeping was using the existing sheets, I wouldn't complain. However if they were using different sheets that were dirty, I would write a letter. :)

There is no extra charge for the trundle beds anymore.

The cost of a room in the AB section with a trundle is the same as the mansion side. That said, if you were disappointed, I would definitely write a letter and express that about both housekeeping/room condition and also about the room assignment. That way they know how you feel. Hope the rest of the trip went well for you. We've stayed at POR and enjoyed our stay there.

I have no problem with writing a letter, but it sounds like perhaps this is one of those situations that should have been addressed when you were there. If the resort was sold out and your assigned room was not acceptable, you could have approached management to see what was available elsewhere. That's pretty standard practice in the hotel industry. If you were given a standard view room, that would be the only reason you could look for monetary compensation as a water view room is the same price whether you sleep 4 or 5. It sounds like you were given something comparable, but again, it if wasn't to your satisfaction, then you could have requested that they look at other options for you. Sometimes that's more stressful than just taking what they offered.... it all depends.

Others have addressed the housekeeping issue with the sheets and that all depends on whether they were making the bed with existing sheets or changing them competely.

Any time I feel that housekeeping is not up to par, I write a letter. It does not have to be a nasty gram, just stating the facts and why you were displeased. If management does not know about a problem, they cannot fix it. If they get enough complaints then hopefully they will look into the problem before it gets epidemic. Write.

Used sheets??? That is gross. How would they even do that? Pull them out of dirty bin? :scared:

I'm interested in knowing why you kept tipping if the housekeeping was horrible. And didn't go directly to a manager.

Can I ask why you were scared to move rooms?

I have moved rooms twice and Disney was perfectly gracious about it.

I was scared they would put us in a really far away room or upstairs that my DH would have trouble with.He had a bad leg and needed 1st floor. The CM did great with the location after the mix up, so I am grateful for that. We were also a grand gathering and tried to stay kind of close by to each other. With the hotel sold out, where would they put us? We were already 5 in a room for 4.

Ok, here's some answers,
When we checked in, the CM told us that roll aways cost 15.00, but that they were giving it to us "free". When you book online you have to state how many people. It is hard to tell the actual breakdown, but I assumed we were paying for a room for 5.

To address the maid service, I probably should of said something, but yes I chose not because I did not want to change locations.
One night when we came in I turned down the kids bed. The sheets had nasty brown stains on them! I folded up the covers and had the kids use their own blankets that we brought with us and lay on top of the comforter. My 5 year old was so sleepy that I did not want to call the desk that late but thought that well they would be changed in the morning. So next morning I pulled sheets off the bed. When I came in that afternoon, I checked. Same brown stains! So again I folded the covers up and had the kids sleep with their blankets on top of the comforter. (Yes, I should have called at that point, but I guess my BIL in the hospitality industry, has me paranoid, cause he tells us service horror stories about spitting in food, etc. Since I didn't want to move rooms, I didn't want her cleaning the toilets with our tooth brushes.) So the next morning I took the sheets and put water on them and laid them in the bathroom floor so they could not put them on the bed again.
Also I did not want to mention this, but there was brown poo on the outside of the toilet when we first checked in, luckily I had my own lysol wipes and cleaned it myself .
I did not know the policy was to change the sheets every 4 days. It seems that it should be more frequent and if I missed a sign in the room stating so I appologize.
I kept tipping because: I know most work hard for their living and who knows what was going on in her life. I also thought maybe it would inspire her to do better. I wish it had.

This is only our 2nd trip to Disney. The first time we came to POR it was truly magical. Everything was perfect. Maybe because that trip was soooo good, POR, housekeeping, CMs and everything, that I set the bar high.

The reason I asked if I should write a letter is because maybe the mgr. needs to know the shower needs some tilex, and maybe he/she could encourage the housekeeping staff to do better. I was not wanting to write a hate mail letter, that is not productive.:)

You thought the sheets were dirty.I know they they don't clean the comforters near as often as the sheets. Just think, everybody comes in from the park and plops down on the comforter, lays their luggage on it, it gets moved to the floor at night sometimes.I'm just saying.

yes that is what I thought too, but supposedly this room only accomodated 4 people, or are all rooms at POR allowed to hold 5?:)

I've been looking for a moderate resort for 5 (DH, DD15, DS8, me, and my Mom) for Oct. '08. When I try to book on the website, POR is the only mod that says it has rooms for 5. (I tried for CSR but it says it's sold out for that time...I'm going to call because I can't see how it can be sold out 14 months in advance!)

Riverside's Alligator Bayou section is the only moderate that will allow 5 in a standard room.

When in doubt, always, always, ALWAYS write a letter!!! I had a less than stellar stay at the YC with my parents (two different rooms) and I let them know. I am will be enjoying a free vacation in November!!!:woohoo: I love WDW. Be NICE in your email and tell them your complaint and what you expect.

I think that's a great attitude to have. So many people write a letter of complaint just to seek some type of compensation -- not to try and improve the situation. I hope your next visit is truly magical!
