How to Weld Letters in SCAL?

I haven't used SCAL too much (DH has actually used it a lot more than I have!) but I'd like to be able to weld letters and have it cut as one word. I know I can use any font on my computer with SCAL but I can't figure out how to get it to cut as one word and not individual letters. Could someone please explain it to me step-by-step? And use small words TIA!!

Type the word you want.

Letter by letter, do the following:
Click on the letter. A red box should show up around it with a bunch of arrows. Click on the left middle arrow to drag the letter. Drag the letter enough to the left so it overlaps the previous letter at least a little bit.

When you have done that for all the letters, click on the word so there is a box around the whole word. Then in the "Properties" box, click the box next to "Weld" so there is a check mark there.

To see how it will look, on the menu bar at the top, click Cutter, then "Preview." What is in red is how it will cut, so you can then make any adjustments to the spacing to make sure the letters are in fact welded.

It takes a bit of practice to figure out how much to overlap. One note I have found - cursive fonts will automatically weld if you click the weld box, no moving of the letters is needed. And some fonts just aren't meant to be welded - they look too weird.

Awesome - thank you for such detailed directions. I can see how some fonts really wouldn't work. I will try it tonight and let you know how it goes!

Just did my first words (we had a little problem with the SCAL activation code but it was settled this morning - whew!) - what fun! I feel like labeling everything in our house Thanks NEEeyore for the perfect directions!
