How to wake up

we booked an inside stateroom with no window because it was cheaper. Do you just set an alarm to wake up to every morning? I hate the idea of setting an alarm every morning on vacation, but if I don't I know we will sleep late if it's pitch dark. Normally the sun coming in my windows at home is what wakes me up. But it's a lot less abruptive to wake up to the sun then it is an alarm. I have looked into alarm light clocks that slowly simulate sunlight, just curious if anyone has used things like this or if you just set an alarm to wake you up.

I just used the wake up call available on the phone. Also we always left the bathroom light on to see at night since I often have to get up and my oldest came in around 2am.

Another option might be to order room service for 7am (or whatever time)with breakfast or at least a cup of coffee/tea. If you don't mind answering the door in your Pjs, then this might work.

Unfortunately my dd always wakes up by 6am, so she usually wakes us up. We would still call and have the ship's wake up service give us a call because when you answer the phone it's a recording of Mickey. My dd likes to hear it, even if she's been awake for hours. I hate waking up to alarms also, so I'd probably get the type of clock you mentioned.

Which ship are you sailing on? If it's the Dream or Fantasy, their inside cabins have a virtual porthole that will create some light in the morning if you leave it turned on (not as much as a real window, obviously, and it won't be black at night, but rather kind of gray).

But yes, even in a stateroom with a real porthole or balcony, I recommend setting an alarm if you want to be up at a certain time.

My two teens leave the tv on and set to the channel of the bridge cam so as it brightens outside, so does the tv.
I was going to suggest this. This is what we do when we sail inside versus OV or Verandah. Though we have also been known not to 'scheduled' anything before 10AM so we just sleep as long as our body allows.

I always set an alarm on my phone. Even with a ocean view or veranda cabin, the curtains are pretty heavy and it stays really dark in the cabins. You will also probably start to hear some noise from the hallways unless you are a super heavy sleeper. The heavy doors slam pretty easily and often.

I wake up at 4AM for work, so on weekends and vacations I can sleep in until about 7-7:30. On a cruise, I then get coffee and walk the upper decks while everyone else is sleeping.

Im always up like a monkey because I'm so excited!!! I'm on a Disney cruise!!! But if I thought I might sleep in I'd just arrange a wake up call

You can set a Fitbit or Apple Watch to wake you up with a soft vibration on your wrist. I find it much more pleasant than an alarm.

I am very jealous that sunlight wakes you up... We just set the alarm on our phone as normal. Even if we have a window we will keep sleeping and if we oversleep it makes us cranky since we are "wasting" the day away!

Can't believe how many people don't try to sleep as late as possible. It's not like you'll sleep til dinner time. My body has me up by 530 daily I'll take every every moment of sleep I can get while on vacation.

Not everyone either wants to sleep in as late as possible or is even physically capable of sleeping in. That's the beauty of this not being camp where everyone does things at the same time. Those who want to and can sleep in have that option. Those who don't or can't have their option.

We're on the west coast and I can typically sleep in until 10am every day (tend to be a bit of a night owl) so if I did that on an eastern cruise, I wouldn't be up until afternoon!! And if we were in an inside room, who knows how late I'd sleep in until?! At home, we have an alarm clock that gradually wakes us up with light and music, but it's rather large to take with us. We love it since living in the pacific northwest we wake up in the dark for a large chunk of the year. Do they have small enough alarms to take on a cruise?? If so, I'd vote for that!

We close the balcony curtains and the curtain beside the bed so as to block out the sunlight. Whether we set an alarm depends on our schedule. If we have an excursion, I definitely set an alarm. If we are meeting friends for breakfast, we'll set an alarm but usually wake up naturally in time because we set breakfast for about 9-9:30. On leisure sea days if nothing is planned, we just get up when we feel like it.
