Can anyone please give their firsthand experience on using their Airtran credits paying for luggage fees - especially at departure from your Disney Resort when using DME?

Customer service stated that I can use my credit by giving the airport check-in desk the reservation/credit number to use the credit for baggage fees. This is fine for when we are checking in at our home airport to come to Orlando, but how can I use my credits to pay for our baggage using BAGS when time to check in our luggage at CBR?

Is there a way, or will we have to take the luggage to the airport ourselves to check it in at the airport desk in order to use our credits?:confused3

BTW, how does BAGS know what you are supposed to pay for you luggage fees?

Has anyone had any trouble using their credits for bggage when checking in at the airport?

I appreaciate any and all experience you have had with using Airtan credits for bagge fees.

P.S. No need to mention about the possibly upgading to business class for free luggage as I do not want to take a chance on their being 4 available seats on all my flights - it most likely won't be available and it's more than I want to spend as I don't have enough credits to cover upgrading - only for a couple pieces of luggage each way.

I need to know this as well, so I am looking forward to any info you receive.

Thanks to all who can help us!!!

I emailed AirTran about this last week and they said you can call customer service to use your credits to pay for luggage. They also told me that if your credit is linked to your A+ account you can use it online, but I've heard you can only use credit card so I'm not sure.

Thanks for this information! I thought they applied my credit to my A+Rewards, but they didn't. I guess I will call Airtran to use my credits and check once we arrive at Pop with RAC and see how to go about using credits for our return flight.

Once again, thanks!!!

Are either of you going soon and could report back with your experiences? Our trip is Oct. 15-23.

Thanks!

They have access to the same computer system as the airport counter or curbside check.

So if they have access to AirTrans computer information, then do you think I can just give them the AirTran credit number (like I will be doing checking into our home airport when flying down)? That would be fantastic!

#1 Has anyone verified if the credit can be used during online check in? If it can be used during online check in, when can it be done?

#2 Does Airtran allow you to pay for your bags both ways in advance? My last flight was on Sun Country and we paid for both ways before the trip started.

I emailed BAGS with my questions and here is their response:

"Thank you for your interest in Bags, A Plus Services Company. If possible, you can pre pay the airline and bring us a receipt showing that you have pre paid for the bags. We do not have the ability to assist you on-site with airline credit."

I guess I'll try AirTran next about using these credits and if their is a way to "pre-pay".

WOW! Thanks for this info. If you don't mind, please post what you find out from Airtran about prepaying. That is what I would prefer to do if possible.

TIA!

How do you know if the credit is attached to your A+ account?

I logged into my A+Rewards account and didn't see a credit. Then I remember the rep told me my credit was under my flight confirmation #.

Just wanted to post a quick update. I just did my online check-in for tomorrow's trip to DW. My credit was not applied to my A+ Rewards card, so I called customer service about applying my credit to my checked baggage and was told that if I wanted to use a credit I would have to do it at the airport counter by giving them my confirmation number. The CS said it could not be done over the phone.

Since this conflicts with what a CS had told another poster, I thought I would pass it along. It is no biggie as we fly out of a small airport and I will just take care of that at the counter, but it would be more convenient otherwise.

Please update us when you get back as to how it goes! Have a wonderful trip!

How do you know if the credit is attached to your A+ account?

Log in to your account on Airtran.com and then click on My Profile in the menu on the left. Your credit account history is at the bottom of the page.

I know when checking in online, the only option is to pay by credit card. It also seems like it can't happen over the phone and the phone agent just passes the buck to a airport check in agent who will likely also not be able to apply a credit to checked baggage fees. Best to just expect to have to pay real $$ for it.

We are sadly home from our vacation. Had a great time and very, very low crowds, lowest I have seen in 3 previous September trips.

Now, on to the important stuff. As I had posted, I was unable to apply my credit over the phone and was told to go to the Airtran counter to use the credit for baggage. At first the CS at the counter could not find my credit, but his supervisor showed him immediately how to retrieve the credit and apply it to my baggage. Keeping in mind that I departed out of a very small airport, the whole thing took maybe 10 minutes, waiting in line included.

Now, for the return trip. I checked with Pop RAC (I think that's what it's called) and they could not apply the credit either. Our boarding passes were brought to our room the morning of our flight and we just bypassed the luggage check-in at the resort. When ME dropped us off at the airport, we retrieved our luggage from the bus and got in line with Airtran to pay for luggage. They found the credit immediately and deducted it. The time at the counter was probably around 3 minutes. We had a very early flight and the line was very short, but I could see where getting through the line might take some time later in the day, but I am certain the 3 hours provided by ME is more than sufficient.

If anyone has any specific questions, I'll do my best to answer.

HTH!

I have been doing some emailing back and forth with AirTran on how to get the credits to work for baggage fees and here was the answer I got:

" I have reviewed your concerns and I would like to apologize for the inaccurate information I have provided. Unfortunately, the credit cannot be applied during online check-in. However, we can apply the credit anytime after your travel. In addition, we do not offer a pre-pay option for baggage.

I can only suggest to check-in online using your credit card and contact me via this email, so I may apply the credit back to the credit card. I regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Your patience is appreciated in this matter.

Sincerely,
...

SO, I plan to use my credits at the airport counter giving them my A+ number when checking-in for our flight to Disney and I am giong to try paying the baggage fees for the return flight and get a credit back to my credit card after we come home.

We'll see what happens! (Only 2 weeks and 2 days to go!)

Has anyone had any luck using credit to check bags on the return recently?

Thanks.
