How to Un-stress?

When you are feeling stressed out and you can feel the anger building up, what do you do to get rid of the stress? What works for you? I do not know how to relax, so when someone tells me just to relax, that stresses me.
 
I go for a run. It seems to work all of the stress out.
 
Dependind on the type of stress I do something to blow off the anger (listen to Metallica real loud and sing along) or take a bath with candles and listen to Enya
 

Ive been working on this too as Ive been feeling like I have it coming from both ends - go to work to get away from home but then go home to get away from work!

walk walk walk and walk some more - when I cant walk I do Walk Away The Pounds DVD indoors - and I recently joined Curves
read - books, magazines, selfhelp books, internet boards
movies - Lifetime, DVDs - thinking of taking myself to movies solo too
sitting in Church can be peaceful
shopping, doing my nails, having a cup of tea, burning candles
 
Exercise helps...if I have a lot of anger or frustration to get out.

If it's stress from too much work, taking a long warm shower or just taking a nap helps.

Hey, I figured out a good way to unstress...read DIS posts about ways to unstress! :teeth:

Taking a shower helps me if I'm physically stressed (feel a headache coming on, etc).

Listening to music helps.

Taking a walk and just generally getting off my behind also helps
 
A coworker and myself actually give presentations on burnout, vicarious trauma, and destressing. You have to find something that you really like to do. I love to read the dis boards, but I don't post when I am stressing, I only go from post to post reading. I only read fun stuff, not anything that is venting.

My coworker paints her nails. She has the most beautiful hands and fingernails. You would think that she had them professionally done. She said one time that she can spend up to two hours doing them. When she needs to chill, she paints away.

One coworker lights candles. One bakes sweets. One listens to her radio as loud as possible.

Basically, you need to find what calms you, and save it for those stressful times.
