How to tell the kids?

Oh I love all these Ideas, they are really great, I too am trying to figure out how to surprise my DD 4 with our trip, and its a tough one, we leave on Christmas day and are driving up, I think I will be handing her her last gift in the morning and it being a letter from Santa telling her what a good girl she's been and that she is going to Disney World, hopefully the car will be packed before they wake up and off we go, hope to hit the road by 10 in the morning for our 3 hour ride!!!
Cant wait, keep asking myself is it Dec. Yet!!!!!! :cheer2:

We just surprised my 10-year-old twin sisters with a trip. My cousin is doing the CP, so we're having a magical gathering 12/4-12/11. After months of planning, we finally told them a few weeks ago.

I went to a local scrapbook store and made "invitations" for every character meal, MVMCP, our fireworks cruise, and the tea party, as if they were from the characters involved in each event. We have an accent fence on the corners of our lawn, and on the one side it's connected to our mailbox. My mom and I made a glittery banner that said "when you wish upon a star" and mounted it on there, and put a sorccerer mickey picture above the mailbox. We put the tickets in there with cloth rose petals, and put confetti and streamers all over. I put all the invitations in a postal shipping box that i decorated with tons of disney stickers, and put the return address from "where the magic lives." we bought autograph books off ebay and stuck those in there too.

When my dad picked them up from ballet, we were standing outside blasting last year's jingle jams cd, and the looks on thier faces were priceless. if i can figure out how to post pictures, i definately will share those with you.

I think everyone has great ideas on here. Hopefully my story might help inspire you too! I think your kids will love any form of a disney surprise, especiall coming from their loving parents!

Have a blast! :earboy2:  :Pinkbounc

WOW! Thanks so much everyone. These ideasare terrific. I will definiteley let you know how it goes....

In October, we told our 3 children that we were going to visit family and friends in Atlanta for a few days. Since we have done this over school breaks before, they didn't question us. Dh and I are terrible about keeping secrets and really thought the kids had figured out the plan long before the trip. We left in the early evening, and all 3 kids fell asleep shortly before we reached Atlanta in the wee hours. Dh couldn't contain himself and awakened them right before we reached Orlando. (I wanted to wait until we were exiting for WDW.) When the kids asked where we were (ironically, they still thought we were on our way to Atlanta...15 hours after leaving home!!), dh told them to look around for clothes. When dh asked what looked different from home, our 5 yo ds kept saying "the grass is green." Well, the grass was still green at home at this point. The kids never commented on the palm trees and always seemed to be looking the opposite direction as we passed the many WDW billboards. We were shocked to discover that our 13 yo ds was the most surprised.

Thanks to all of you. I have decided to have an invitation sent to them to a special B-day party. When they get home from school. I will tell them they received some mail. They will open it and it will be from Mickey/Minnie or maybe Cinderella inviting them to their B-day party in WDW. I'm not sure how I am going to word it though. Maybe something like..........

Please join Cinderella......

Mickey and Minnie cordially invite........

Once again I am in a creative slump. Any thoughts?

CHILD'S NAME

This is what we are doing this year (arriving at Disney Dec 31):

We will already be in Florida for a two week beach holiday.
On the way back to the airport from the beach we will pretend to get lost and we will end up at our Disney resort.
DH will say" Daddy really needs to fly home today since I have to work tomorrow, but since I took some wrong turns and we are already at Disney would you kids like to stay here for a week with mommy?" Then he will drop of us and continue to MCO.

Keeping the surprise (since June) has really been hard. I keep walking around the house saying "PC" (for Pop Century) and the kids have been going nuts trying to figure out what PC stands for. DS5 saw me on the computer the other day looking at pics of POP and said that this is where we must stay next time at Disney.

To the OP: On DIS there is a board that is for people who know about or have questions about crafts. On there you may find/or post about an invite. On that board, I have found an invite to print out for CRT, Ohanas and the Family Magic Tour. I think that they are supposed to be transfers for t-shirts but you can also simply print them out for invites I think also. That is what I have done anyway.

Bellarose23: you sound like an artistic genius. Your ideas sound amazing. If you can post pictures, I would so appreciate it.

We leave Dec 4 and the kids have no idea. Not going to tell them till we getup to head for the airport. Last year we told them about 100 days before our Dec trip and the were just thinkg about the trip and not school. This year we are going to try something a little different.
