But that requires you to understand the classification of the airline's fare structure. E.g the result will come up like this -
BUCKET CLASSES: F5 C9 D9 Y9 K9 L9 G0 A5 Z9
This will mean there are at least 5 seats left in F (first class), 9 left in C...etc. If your class is 0, that means you cannot buy fare in that class. Keep in mind that if G (discounted Economy) is sold out, that doesn't mean you cannot buy anymore coach. You may have to just pay a little bit more (aka another fare class) for that same coach seats.
Goto http://www.FlyerTalk.com, and do a search for "availability tools". You can find tons of guidance there.
A very nice tool, but I believe there's a newer version of that particular tool available. Try http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~hartberg/ft/SabretoolSetup.htm ... This tool has also been time-restricted to reduce server load. It's now got a 2 hour uptime, followed by a 5 hour downtime.
If you call and ask, airlines are required to tell you if a particular flight is oversold. They're not required to tell you by how much it's oversold, but they are required to tell you if it's oversold or not. You also have to give a specific flight number for a specific day, you can't just say "Can you tell me if flights from Detroit to Orlando are oversold?"
I can also look up flights, given a date and start/end points. PM for small requests (I won't do more than 3 for any person, otherwise it gets to be too time consuming)
