How to talk husband into getting scooter....

My husband is only 46 but after years of playing professional rugby his body is in bad shape with multiple bad breaks, bad hips and a knee replacement. He is 6'6" and 300 lbs and is afraid of the talk that people will say he is only has a scooter because heis fat.

I plan to get the guest assistance card fo when we can use it but maily focusing on fast passes. I went to a utube site and looked at all the rides and think he will fit in all except maybe space mountain?

What he plans to so is tell our group to just go ahead if he has to sit and rest and we will connect by phone and he can catch up.

Also, he has a handicap pass so on the days we drive to the park is there any park where handicap parking is worse than regular parking? I remember hearing something at MK that it is not by the tram so how far a walk to the boat/monorail>

Mk is the worst for driving to, because you have to park at the Ticket and Transportation Center then take either the Monorail or the Ferry over. The rest of the parks you can park fairly close to the gate.

As far as the scooter goes, maybe try this. Try renting one in the parks for one day and let him use it when he wants and maybe you the other times (everyone likes a seat now and then). If after that day he decides that "Hey I was able to do more and enjoy myself more", then have a phone number for a rental company off-site to call and have one delivered to him. This way it leaves him with a out each way.

I would caution you though, that if you get a scooter from off-site, with his weight, he is going to need a bigger scooter, that probably won't be able to be broke down and put in a vehicle, at least not easily. I also would not go with a scooter, that just because it says it's weight limit is 300lbs, just for the fact that if you are already at the top of the scale for it, the batteries won't last as long. I would try and get one that is at least capable of carrying 50lbs more than he weighs for a longer lasting battery. Also stay away from the "Dream" scooters, because they are not allowed on the buses. They are too big for them.

but you can try it out for a day nearby. Go to the zoo with the intention of not using a scooter. If he manages okay in the zoo for a day, he may be able to get by at Disney. You do have to remember though that one day at a zoo does not compare to a week at Disney.

You can also use the zoo as a try out for a scooter. It's a great way to learn how to use them there.
