We are going to WDW for our second family trip in November (first trip was 2 yrs ago). My DDs are 6 & 9 have been asking about going back, so I know they will be very excited!! (DS is only 3, so he doesn't remember our first trip)

I'd like to tell them when we are around 30 days away.

Any fun suggestions?!?

I can't say how to tell them 30 days away, as we told our son, ON THE WAY...
We told him we were going on vacation at the beach and we'd have to drive by WDW... well.. this is what happened.

I don't think we could wait and tell them on the way. They will need to coordinate getting school work and I will need them to help us pack and get ready!

(At work now, but will watch your video later)

Oh yeah, there's no way I could have done it without telling him that we were going on vacation - he just didn't realize we were going to Disney. He thought we were just going on a beach vacation for a week. :)
I hope you find a great way to surprise them!

We are telling them the night before we leave as well at the hotel we are staying at the night before our plane takes off. We leave the 25th of this month (EEK!!), but we opted to stay at a hotel the night before next to the airport so we could park our car there and not have to rush out for our 5am flight :)

They THINK we have a family reunion the following morning, celebrating my husbands Uncle "Walt" and Aunt "Minnie"s anniversary:rolleyes1, and we are bringing their anniversary gifts. But those aren't for Walt and Minnie, they're for DS and DD!! A big box of goodies for the plane, personalized "I'm going to Disney World!" T-shirts, stuffed Minnie/Mickeey, snacks, etc that we will give them instead when we tell them the surprise!!

We will be organizing the school work with the teachers directly the week before so they don't have to even worry about all that. Hoping it will be wonderful! Good luck to you all!

I'm doing similar to McGreezy. We are planning to spend the night at a hotel by the airport before we leave. My plan is to give them a package there with our disney shirts in them and hopefully a postcard from WDW (we'll see if they still send them). I have 2 & 7 DD's and I know they are going to be super excited.

I think I'll arrange the time with the oldest teacher and not even mention that we are going to be away!

It's very difficult... imagine my situation, I'm actually going to surprise my daughter AND my husband with our very first disney world vacation, heck, or first real vacation period. And its not until September 2016... i am still debating wether to tell them a couple days before our actually wake them up and surprise them the morning of! Anywho i will be vlogging EVERYTHING. actually i have already started with the planning booking, etc.... and i have uploaded the videos to my youtube channel. ...but they are private until i will reveal the surprise! Gosh i really needed to get it out of my chest. At least in the forums lol

Our trip (first time to WDW!!) is at the end of January. We have a 10:30am flight and will probably leave about 5:30am to get to the airport. I'm planning on telling the kids that morning when I wake them up. It'll be a Wednesday, so my current plan is to have them go to school like normal on Tuesday, go to bed like normal on Tuesday and then in the morning I'll have their special "I'm going to Disney!" outfits out and hanging for them to put on.

Last year we went to Alaska and didn't tell the kids at all. We got out of the airport in Anchorage at 3am and then sun was up a bit and as we were driving to the house we were staying at, my daughter says "Hey, those mountains over there look like Alaska!" I asked her "Then where do you think we are?" She says "Pennsylvania" (where we live). LOL!! It was soo funny to me! The kids really had no concept of the amount of time we were on the plane and stuff!

We are planning on telling our DD6 the morning we leave. We have a 9am flight and have to be at at the airport by 7am, so we will leave the house by 6:30 (12 minute drive). We will have her bag packed and get her up have her put any last minute wants in her carryon back pack and off we go!

Our last trip, my daughter told her kids, 5 & 7, at 5:30 on the morning they were leaving. They were too sleepy and didn't have any real reaction until they were getting ready to land in Orlando. (Those are cute pictures) They didn't know we were joining them until we walked into the resort. Such a heartwarming greeting!

This time she told them in advance, but added a week. They have a countdown calendar, which they tell me everyday how long it is :) We don't have to leave for the airport until 7 and she is going to wake them and tell them she's tired of waiting, let's go! But they've helped in the planning this time and have been so happy about it.
