we usually like to let the kids know we're going. That way we get to enjoy the excitement as time gets closer. However, we're going to do a short trip next week and surprise the kids. We will be checking them out of school on Tuesday driving two hours to the airport and flying to Disney World. They have no idea this is about to happen. What ways have you sprung a surprise on your kids? Looking for some ideas.
Six more days holy crap I got to get to packing!

We're surprising our 9 year old daughter on 11/12. It's an early dismissal day from school and parent/teacher conference for the end of term. We planned a reward for her great report card -- a trip to her favorite book store and a chance to get one of her collectible stuffed animals (she'll probably be mad about that at first).

I'm doing the conference with the teacher (she's in on it), picking her up, and driving to the airport - which is on the way to where we told her we're going. The bags will be packed and out of sight in the Odyssey and we'll just casually let her discover what's happening. She knows we're going...but thinks our trip is in December. She will most likely have her nose in a book most of the way there, so she probably will not notice we are at the airport until we're parked.

Oh, I love doing that! I've done it several times.

First time, my kids were very young(too young to read) so we actually put them in the car and drove them there saying we were going to a relatives house and when they saw the Disney sign, and knew. That was fun :)
Another time, we got in the car-my oldest two knew already-and my youngest didn't. So we got a little way from home and pulled out his favorite, Krispy Kreme donuts. When he opened the box to get one, we had made a Mickey head with the donut and it said We're going to Disney in the box.
The last time I suprised my son(he's 12, but at the time he was 9) I just woke him up that morning.( I have a video somewhere) I said lets do something fun, he said okay. Then I said how about go to Disney? He thought I was kidding and I said "no, we're going to Disney today. For real." So he screams his way down the hall to get dressed. That was the best one. :)

If you go to You Tube, search "surprise, we're going to Disney World." You will get hundreds of videos and some really great ideas. I love looking at those!

Thanks for the ideas guys.....keep em coming.
I thought right now is that we may tell them we are going to Six Flags.....drive into the parking lot only to find Six Flags closed.
Then spring the surprise on them by giving them a late birthday present by wrapping up their Magic Bands. Still in the planning stage so
all suggestions welcome. :)

We are leaving 2 weeks from tomorrow. Will pick the 2 older kids up from school and already have the luggage packed. We plan on having gift bags for all of the kids containing their magic bands, gift cards, etc. We'll see how long it takes them to figure it out once they open their bags.

We surprised our daughter at school. Then a second part of the surprise was her older sister who now lives in California met us at MCO when we arrived. Such a great trip!

For our next trip I am wrapping up some hints in a box for Christmas and once she figures it out then I'll ask her if she wants to know when we are going or if she wants us to surprise her like we did last time. This way she at least gets to experience the excitement leading up to the trip and help with a bit of planning. The trip itself is the end of January....I have to remember to narrow down the time frame for her. I don't need her running around the house screaming Christmas morning thinking we are going that day! :)

I have surprised DGD twice but neither time got on camera correctly.
First time I had a box done up with a gift bag full of Disney items and a letter that read we are going to Disney. I dropped it off at our favorite ice cream shop. We went by (with the car loaded but she didn't know) to get ice cream and they gave her the box that was left for her. She opened it and read the letter. I messed up that one by not saying "we are going to Disney TODAY" so she didn't really react. Lesson learned, include TODAY on future letters.

Second time it was the next to last day of school. I had arranged with her teacher for her to miss last day. Next to last day was field day so DH and I went to help. When they finished up the day we gave her a backpack with her AG doll in a Snow White dress, along with some more Disney items and this time a letter that said we were going TODAY. She, and her friends, all got very excited. Unfortunately I had the camera on pause the enter time :(

I even surprised DH that same trip. I arranged with his boss for him to get a couple days off and didn't tell him till the Friday before we left on Monday. I had one of the wonder Disigners here make the letter for him.

We surprised our daughter this year. We gave her a box on her birthday, inside was a picture we had printed off of a countdown ticker. We still had a couple months to wait, but wanted to surprise her on her birthday. You could do something similar if your kids usually watch a countdown ticker, or know if you have one on your dis signature. Only the ticker would say something like " 0 days until ..."
