I bought my DD 5 an Our Generation doll (similar to American Girl but not as pricey) for Christmas. I eventually will be getting her American Girl dolls if she enjoys these dolls as much as I hope she does. :) Since she is only 5, I started with the Our Generation dolls to see how much she enjoys them and takes care of them. I bought her Juliet, the Cheerleader :cheer2: and she comes with several accessories. I also bought her a large Our Generation horse with accessories. My main question is - how do I store these dolls and accessories when she is not playing with them?
I want to teach her how to keep the accessories together and not just throw them into the bottom of the toy bin. :rolleyes1

Do these dolls fit into hat boxes? And if they do...where do I find hat boxes?? :confused3

Any ideas? What do you all do??
Thanks so much for any advice! :flower3:

My daughter is 13 and has accumulated four American Girl dolls. One year I purchased a blue wire scrolled trundle bed from American Girl. So the dolls sit on the bed and the pull out. It has cute bedding and pillows too.

I purchased fabric boxes at Homegoods. We use about three and store all the clothes in two and most of the accesories in the third in her bedroom closet the boxes are bursting at the seams. Some things like the skis are too big and are just in the closet. The kayak is deflated and is in the accesories box.

Not getting played with at all lately but the dolls still remain.

Target sells a Wooden storage closet thing that the clothes can hang in with shelves and a drawer as well as a vanity stool and mirror. We got one for DD8 last year for Christmas, and it has held up really well.

DD is starting with AG this year. If you have an AC Moore near you, they have a line of 18" dolls. They have a cute wooden armoire, and also a doll trunk. There is also a nice wooden armoire at JC Penney online. At AC Moore, you can use a 40% off coupon if not on sale.

The thing I like about the storage trunk (even though it is not wood) is that it has a drawer inside for shoes, etc., and you can close it, snap it shut, and it has a top handle so you can easily move it to the closet when not in use.

DD keeps her AG stuff in some smaller rubbermaid totes, shoes/little accessories in a little rubbermaid type drawer thing.

Be forewarned, I understand starting out with a Target doll to see if she'd like a real AG, but the Target doll's hair is *horrible* and snarls up dreadfully. If you have a Tuesday Morning near you (or sometimes TJ maxx has them)- check to see if they have any Gotz Precious Day dolls. They run around $30 and are a significantly better quality. (Gotz made the original AG dolls, they are the same size.)

I'll have to go look at the Gotz dolls. I didn't know that about the Our Generation girls hair. :headache:
Is there anything I can do to keep the hair somewhat nice? Braid it and tell DD never to brush it?

And I plan on going to AC Moore to look at the doll trunk that someone mentioned, I got a 50% off coupon in my email today!

My daughter is getting her first AG doll and I bought some of the little OG accessories also. I plan to buy some rectangular boxes I've seen at Ross to store the clothes and accessories.

Re the hair-
AG says to use only a wire wig brush on the dolls hair. (They sell them, but I got one for a couple bucks at Sally's Beauty supply.) I don't know about the Target dolls though. Their hair is simply awful. If you're old enough to have had a blonde doll in the 70's, how their hair all matted up, it's like that. DD is generally good with toys and didn't do anything out of the ordinary with it.

On the flip side, she's had one of her Gotz dolls for 8 years (since she was 2). It's a maxi Muffin (comparable to the AG Bitty Twins) and still is in fabulous shape. She's even been through the washer a couple times. (Gotz says on the label this is ok;AG does not.)

We store all the clothes and accessories in an underbed box. Her doll is usually on her bed.

My DD has an Our Generation doll and the hair does get bad. Fortunately I pulled it up into a pony and fluffed it a little and it looks really pretty. The clothes for that doll are in a trunk that she got for Christmas last year. For Christmas this year grandpa made her a large wooden armoire for her dolls and clothes.
