How to stop DH from snoring????

DH snores, but does not have apnea. I roll him on his side when it gets bad, and use wax earplugs! :thumbsup2

all of the above are why dh and I sleep in separate rooms. that and the fact that he also has periodic limb movement disorder(which he REFUSES to take meds for).

ear plugs hurt my ears(tried all kinds)

Its just as well. He likes the tv and lights on while going to sleep. I like quiet and dark. for the first 17 years of our marriage I would wait until he went to sleep(probably around midnight) and then I would get up and turn the tv off.
As I got a little older I realized that wasnt enough sleep. If he woke up in the night he would turn the tv back on.

It cuts back on the you-know-what but I cant do much about that.

You said it started a few months ago, does he have allergies? It could be from that.

Since it started suddenly, I would investigate what changed then?
New animal, new detergent, etc....think back.

Allergies can be the cause and he could get some nose spray.

And although you say your DH is not tired, his body is. It takes alot of work to do heavy snoring and sleeping.
Your body is supposed to be at rest.

My dd 12 years old has sleep apnea and has been on a cpap machine for 4 yrs and she slept like a baby but snored really loud,She was tested and has moderate sleep apnea. Get him tested! It can cause alot of health problems. The difference in her now is wonderful.

I pinch his nose shut so he can't breathe....then he wakes up & rolls over. :teeth: And when he wakes, I suggests he put a Breathe Right strip on his nose...but he never does.

If he keeps snoring, I keep pinching ...and then I start pushing, jabbing, kicking....

If I'm going to be kept awake, then he's going to be awake too. :teeth:

Breath Right strips are not for use by those who suffer from sleep apnea. It is true that snoring is not always a sign of sleep apnea, but sleep apnea is usually accompanied by snoring.

I was going to suggest a pillow over the face too, but I see that has already been mentioned. How about sending him to the couch? :teeth:

Wake him up ... that'll shut him RIGHT up! :rotfl2:

I do it, and it really works. ;)

I'm the snorer in our family. I've always slept fine, except for the sore spots in my back from where DH kept poking me to try to wake me up and get me to roll over. I tried the throat spray, breathe right nasal strips, losing weight, etc. DH finally gave up and now sleeps in another room. He says he prefers that, since he was the only one who had trouble sleeping before. He even went out recently and bought a new bed for himself. He also used to have trouble with my moving in bed, he said the "jiggling" would wake him up.

I was going to ask this also- DH has allergies and used to snore something terrible. He decreased the amount of dairy intake in his diet because dairy products can greatly increase mucous in some people, therefore making him stuffed up all of the time, and his allergies improved tremendously and the snoring stopped.
Good luck to you and hope you get some sleep!

It could be sleep apnea as my uncle has it. His wife was trying to get him to go to the doctor for months. He was so bad, my Aunt sleeps on the 3rd floor. He finally went not too long ago. They gave him some kind of mask to put on when he sleeps at night and he wakes up more restful now. He was one that could watch something on tv and in 5-10 minutes he would be sleep. Since his sleep study, he doesn't do that anymore. He said now he feels like he's had a good night's sleep.

Sleep apnea can kill you because you actually stop breathing when you're sleep and you may not start breathing again. Have DH do a sleep study and see what they say.

We use Vick's vapor rub. It works almost everytime. His allergies keep him from breathing so the vicks opens everything up and no more snoring. We tried the breathright strips. He said they bothered his nose.

My wife was snoring and did not feel rested so she took the test.
they went over the results and she asked if she was waking up.
They said "yes, 6 times!"
She said wow! "Six times a night, huh...."
They said "No, six times an hour!"
so she got the cpap breather and now I can sleep.

Dh and I have been together for 20 years and he has ALWAYS snored!!! When he has worked 17 or 18 hour days he snores even worse.. He snores both on his back and on his left side..He gets so mad at me for poking him that he gets up and sleeps on the couch...

That seems to take care of the snoring problem. :teeth:

It doesn't help that I have insomnia and can't sleep. He just makes it even harder to fall asleep. :sad2:

I probably should add to my post from page 1...but DH only snores when he's sleeping on his back while he's got a cold or allergies. When he's stuffed up. Which is why I wanted him to use the strips.

Me, too!

Sometimes I just roll him over and try to fall back asleep before it starts again.

He snores like crazy, but usually I sleep on through it. When I don't, I take action!

This just started a few months ago but it's gotten to the point that I can't sleep. I kick him, hit him, tell him to hush but still he starts again.

Any good remedies?

Oh I don't kick and hit hard, maybe thats the problem :rotfl2:

I'm sorry I am not any help but feel your pain :grouphug:
I honestly know how some people that are just slightly off can kill in the middle of their sleep. :rotfl:

I've not shaved my legs and dragged them up and down my dh, stuck my knuckle in his back, tell him to turn over, push him but to no avail.
I tried ear plugs when I first got married 16 years ago but think my unshaved legs work better. :rotfl2:

I do find when I tell him to turn over on his side it either helps him a little or I just can't hear it as much and at 2 am, I honesely don't care what the heck is the reason.

Good luck and welcome to the club. Perhaps finding a stronger word than "hush" may help and yes, you MUST kick and hit much harder :cool1:

I've done it all. Poked, jabbed, pinched, squeezed, pulled, yanked and prodded.

One night, besides doing all of the above, I kept telling him to roll over. In his sleep, he barked.
