How to shrink a shirt?

I googled it and it said to either wash it in hot water, or put it in a pot of boiling water for 5 mins. (then air dry and repeat if it is still too big). I think I'll try the boiling water.

I've always found that a few days of stuffed crust pizzas and Blue Bell ice cream do the job very nicely. And as a bonus, it shrinks your pants too. :cool1:

Don't know much about "organic" cotton, but 100% cotton should shrink if you use warm/hot water, and put in dryer on medium heat. I've had 100% cotton shirts shrink for me this way --- and shrinking them was not my intention.

My husband manages to shrink all of my shirts by drying them all the way. I have been known to buy something if it is just a little too big in one area and bring it home for him to shrink! Otherwise, I now do my own laundry!

I shrunk my son's practice t-shirts for soccer that I bought too big. They were "preshrunk" cotton. I used the boiling water technique. Can't remember if I then washed them or dried them, but they came inwards and upwards equivalent to one size. Seems I googled it...maybe a you tube video?

I also shrunk a t-shirt that wasn't supposed to go in the dryer and then "grew" it again until it was the right shape and size. So really if you shrink too much, you can fix it again.

How do you "grow" it?

would let it sit in vinegar or salt water to set the colors over night and then wash in hot and dry in dryer. if that does not do it then sorry will still be to big or might fit a child. all I know is if I want something to shrink it usually does not and if I order a shirt on line it never runs big enough..

:rotfl: I also get good results with Ben & Jerry's and some Snickers bars.

When you say let it soak in vinegar to set the color, is it a vinegar/water mix, or just vinegar?

I grew it by soaking it in cold water, hanging it up to dry. I pulled outwards a little (it mostly shrunk upwards). After hanging it to dry, it was the exact same size as before. We had bought 2 shirts the same design so I measured to make sure when to stop. I pulled a little here and there as it dried to make sure it was stretching. Just watch the neck line.

Since then, I've washed it and never had it back in the dryer, and it's still the same size.
