How to save the new loveseat from the evil kitty.

Okay, we have 2 cats, 11yo and 8yo. One scratches furniture pretty badly, although we've gotten that under some semblance of control (if you could covering our hacked up "nice" sofa with cling wrap, control!!) The other pees on things when we go on vacation (and only then, so we know it's out of spite, not out of a health issue)

Disregarding our scratcher, we HAVE to get rid of our crappy little basement loveseat, due to our peeing cat. Honestly, I have been wanting to throw away this ugly thing for years, but my DH has some weird attachment to it. But the cat has turned it into a pee-filled hazmat nightmare and DH has finally agreed to throw it away.

So, we're going to buy a new loveseat for the basement. How can I keep my evil kitty from peeing on it while we're away? i can't close it off, since the cat-box is in the basement, too. Any ideas??

I, too, had a vindictive cat. She would leave me little "nugget gifts" on places like...the top of the toilet seat, or on the bathtub edge. She also went through a stage of peeing on the daybed of our playroom---thankfully there were a lot of layers on it, so I could wash everything, but still. What I started doing before leaving town: placing plastic garbage bags on it. She didn't like the texture and would leave it alone. HTH

Our dog "ate" one of our phones today while we were at work/school (technically, he chewed it up and spit it out!). Ahhh.....the things we put up with for our pets.

I would confine the cat to one room with the litter box while you were away.

We had to do that over Christmas break while we were in WDW. (Our cat had been a little ill & so we put her in our Master bathroom with food & litterbox...our neighbor checked on her everyday). Your cat will be fine confined to one room.
