if you have a child ages 8-18, who is willing to take an interesting class at Disneyland, Youth Education Series offers individual enrollment once a month. There are a variety of classes to choose from, and best of all, you save money on your park hopper tickets for your whole group. We are saving just under $400 for our 4-4 day park hoppers, and my son (and me) get to take a really cool class for 2.5 hours.

And if you are at disneyland on November 17 and would like your 8-11 year old to learn about California history, sign up for the California, Here I Come! Class (Now called exploring the golden state) so they don't cancel it on us!

Here's a link to the YES enrollment page
www.disneyyouth.com/individual-enrollment/
And if uou have any questions just call Raymond at Y.E.S. he is super helpful. He said the Disneyland enrollment has been low because not enough people know about it. The website has changed a bit so it may be hard to find the information you need, so calling direct is best bet. You can find his info on the purchase tickets page, just be sure to click individual enrollment.

This sounds like a great educational opportunity. I hope people don't abuse it just to get discounted tickets. I wonder if they have a way to safeguard against people enrolling their kids just to get tickets and then never showing up for the class.

That was the one complaint I read about, no discount for AP pass holders, but you can just buy the one day ticket at reduced rates for one class. Not even sure you would need to buy the chaperone a ticket (chaperones are only required for kids 11 and under I think)

As for abusing the system, I don't think there has been much of it. They have the same program at Disney World and its in high demand. They probably have checks and balances in place.

Do you know if there is an option for AP holders?

Yeah, I'm not really looking to get a discount on the price of the class, but I don't want to pay admission twice. I may call them later to see if they have an option that would work for us.

I have looked into this and it's a great program. Unfortunately it's not available the dates we are travelling. Oh well maybe next year.

AS for safeguards --- I read on the application or elsewhere on the YES page that if you do not attend the class they will charge your card for the difference of discounted ticket prices.

Yes,they will charge the balance if you don't attend and just saying your kid is sick won't cut it.:crazy2:
The price of each class for AP holders is $45.
DD is doing the Designing a Disney story and an Energy and Physics lab in feb.

I have been eyeing this for a while, but DD has been too young. On our next trip she will be almost 7 1/2. I know some of the classes start at 8 years old. Does anyone know how strict they are about the age? I would attend the class with her...

We are also already registered for this class! It is our first experience with the Y.E.S. program, but they have been so helpful and responsive to all of our questions, and so we are excited about it.

(Wow, first DISBoards post after much lurking.)

:welcome: Welcome to my addiction:rolleyes1

So which class are you signed up for?

I called this afternoon and got the AP price info too. I'm hoping to do the physics class for my son. We have 2 different dates planned in December, but only 1 works with the class. We just need to see what happens with my Dh's work schedule.

Susie63, we are signed up for California Here I Come on Saturday, Nov 17th.

I'm a little nervous about crowds since we haven't been to any Disney parks with our kids, but I think I have enough info from these boards to make a good go of it. We'll go to the parks for two of the less busy days earlier in the week as well.

Sure hope they have the class and get the enrollment!

I hope more people sign up for the California class on Nov 17th, I was just told only 5 kids are in the class. They are still accepting enrollment, keeping my fingers crossed.
