How to rest midday?

Ok so I know a lot of people recommend with younger kids especially to take a midday break and go back to your hotel and have naps etc etc

The last time I went with my girls (who where 4, 7&8 at the time) they never took naps and they didn't really relax either, even if we put the tv on so they could just "chill" for a while they were still kind of bouncing all over the place

so my question is if you dont leave the parks what are your suggestions on rides or attractions that are low key or a good way to chill out without leaving?

Maybe something like having the lunches be TS meals instead of the dinners?

Well, the monorail, people mover and CoP at MK are great for relaxing - CoP is great for cooling down in the summer too.

At EPCOT, Ellens Energy Encounter is good for relaxing and Great Movie Ride at DHS.

Many shows can give you a short A/C break.

Hall of President, American Adventure, how about taking a resort shuttle launch

The movies in the countries at Epcot could be a way to relax. Also, spend a little extra time having lunch. We took our DD back to the hotel midday and that worked well for us. She would have a short swim in the pool, lunch and a short time resting....then back to the parks refreshed. At the time, we made it clear that she needed to rest if she wanted to go back for more fun. Also, I was quite careful about what she ate....not too many sugary treats to keep her from being too wound up! ;)

Sometimes we just couldn't make it back to the resort for a long break, so we would have a longer CS meal. Love to go to Columbia House & eat nice & slow. I have fallen asleep on Ellen's ride in Epcot....great place to get a 45 A/C nap. Got stuck on Spaceship Earth one time & yes napped on that one. Sometimes you just have to find a quiet spot & just have some down time.

ha I love that you took naps on some rides :thumbsup2

When my kids were younger, if my kids took a nap or even relaxed long enough so mom can nap, Mickey or one of the gang made a secret visit to our room to leave them a note and a present. After the first visit they were eager to sleep, so they could get their surprise. I would shop before the trip and buy disney things (small fans, cups, glow sticks, etc.) and one of the characters would leave a note thanking them for resting along with a small gift. It worked like charm on my kids. This is only way they would relax long enough so mom could take a nap.

Last summer I was able to fall asleep in the Tiki Room, Oh Canada, The Finding Nemo musical (I was exhausted during that I did go back and watch it again), and even standing up while leaning against a building in Italy during a show Epcot, Im sure I feel asleep other places because waking up at 7 in the morning is not my thing but being 17 I hear makes it easier to fall asleep anywhere.

I have no children, but I think this is a BRILLIANT idea! :thumbsup2

If the restaurant is full, with a lot of noise and activity going on, a TS meal isn;t going to be any more calming for the kids than a CS one.

Tom Sawyer Island is a great place to unwind in the MK.

I also always falll asleep in Ellen......a favorite break for me. We go in August though so we almost always do midday back at the resort.

When my kids were little, I had trouble getting my son to nap whether at home or away, but he would be a bear by dinner if he did not nap. So we made the rule, It did not matter if you slept or not, you HAD to close your eyes for 10 minutes at a given time, the reward was a swim after in the pool in the back yard. Or some other agreed upon thing. It usually worked while he was in the age of needing naps as he would fall asleep during that 10 minutes. If he did not sleep, well he had rested and that was the deal as he was still for the 10. I am guessing with the activity of Disney 10 is all it would take for a little one to fall asleep. I have seen kids fall asleep on some of the dark rides as well and at least that is some rest tho I suspect might not be enough, depending on the kid.

I did not take my kids to Disney when they were little, because I had one that was terrified of characters until she after she turned 10, this meant we did not go until my kids were 7 yrs and just turned 12 yrs of age, thus avoiding the napping at Disney routine. I do feel sorry for those with obviously children who need a nap, but envy also being able to take your kids to Disney while they are young as I was not able to as I said, she was Terrified and anything in a costume, santa, the Easter bunny, clowns, other characters and trick or treaters, it was very hard getting her thru that time, a park was not the place for her, would have been very traumatic. This we found out the hard way in a local mall. Good luck.
