How to rent points?

What is the procedure to rent points? I am thinking about renting the remainder of my points for this use year and would like the good, bad and the ugly of doing it.

Might I suggest you post this question on the DIS Trade/Rent Board? I think you will find more information there as that board is dedicated to the topic of renting/trading where this is dedicated to general discussions and information about DVC.

i have did both suggestions. I just would like to know the process with member services and the such. Does any use a contract? Have you had any problem renting points? etc

Micknstang-I should have read closer. I thought you were a non-member trying to rent. Thougth you needed lessons on the whole point system, etc.

From what I got on several recent threads (sorry, I couldn't find them). Most people ask for an amount up front, make the reservations and ask for the rest ~60 days before the ressie. A contract is recommended. Here's an example that I found.

There are others with a lot of knowledge. You may want to try re-phrasing your question, pm'ing someone like Dean or seraching for some of his posts. He has mentioned his system several times and seems to have a lot of knowledge on the subject.

The process with MS is the same as when you make ressies for yourself. You call and ask for what the renter wants, and then reserve it, asking them to put the ressie in John Doe's name. They send the ressie to you, and you send it to John Doe, providing he has sent the downpayment, as per your agreement. Decide ahead of time how you want to receive the money, so you can clearly communicate that to the renter. I usually ask for $100-$200, then divide the rest into 2 or 3 payments, fully paid 45-60 days ahead of check-in date.

This is a good time of year to rent points. Many people are renting now for the fall.
