I'm a newbie and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about renting out points. We would like to go on a Disney cruise but someone suggested that it would probably be better point value wise if we rented our points out and used the cash to pay for our cruise. (Something about points on a cruise being worth only $4-$6 a point, maybe $7, vs. $10 a point for DVC resorts. (And definately not to be used at the Ca. hotels...)
We have points at Hilton Head with our use year in September.

Just learned about transferred points method recently. (Transferring only current use year points into their account, which in turn they can now be in control of as to how & when they are used, including banking them if necessary.) Sounds like getting transferred points would be the preferable way to go. I know any transactions depend on a basic element of trust but doing it this way seems to relieve the need to rely on someone else to take care of details and reduces the fear factor.

If this is what they prefer then you have the rentee pay you first with some kind of contract for their benefit as well? That reads to me as the only real worry is to the rentee - paying someone for points and possibly not getting them.

How do you rent points?

Welcome to the DIS.

If you haven't already, take a look at the "Rent/Trade FAQ's" at the top of the page. It may answer some of your questions about renting.

The structure of each rental can be negotiated between those involved, so there are no "rules". Many have found a contract to be helpful and it doens't need to be fancy.

I'll move this to the DVC Board, where it's likely to get some more responses.
