OK - I have scoured the DVC boards and I still don't understand how this works. If you are paying for points - how many points do you need for 1 night? Is it up to the owner to estimate how much to charge? Can I get a good room for the same price as a value room (I read somewhere that this is possible)? Help! :confused3

When do you want to go, and where do you want to stay? Poinst needed vary based on those 2 things. You could also use the point caculator.

I'm a DVC member and will try to explain it a little bit. We have DVC "seasons" in our member guidebook that tell us how much points are for different times of the year and various units (studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms, grand villas):

Adventure Season is low season (january, september and 1st 2 weeks of Dec) You can get a studio for as low as 8 points a night (Sunday through Thursday) at OKW. Most members rent out their points for around $10 a point. So Sunday through Thursday at OKW would be five nights for a total of 40 points. So take $10.00 times 40 and that equals $400. So $80 a night. A Wilderness Lodge studio is 12 points a night Sunday through Thursday during Adventure Season so 60 points total for the five nights times $10.00 a point would equal $600.

Friday and Saturday night points are usually double or more. Just play around with the point calcuator and you should be able to figure it out. If you rent points from a DVC member, just remember it's a private transaction between you and them. You are basically using their points/membership (they book a points reservation with their name at the top and your name on the reservation sheet as the person checking in). There is trust involved on both sides. A member could be held accountable for damages you incur on a DVC room or maybe even charges you don't pay. And you, of course, would want to be able to trust the member you rent from. If you decide to rent points, look for somebody on the DIS boards that has plenty of posts. Read through the posts and get a feel for that person. Then contact the DVC member who is advertising the points for rent and see if you can work something out if you decide to go for it.

Good luck!

You can plug in your information on the points calculator and it will tell you exactly how many points you need for your desired dates. The number of points is based on the resort/season/days of the week. The price per point is set by the DVC member. So let's say that you need 80 points for your entire stay and John Q. DVC Owner is renting points for $10 each. This would make your stay $800.00.

Also check out the Point Chart. That shows the seasons for the different resorts along with the points required. It will break it down by Sunday through Thursday, then the weekends, and show the weekly total for 7 days also.
