I have my first trip booked for May at Rivera but now I am wanting to make it a split stay so I can try a second resort during our six days there. My dates at riviera in a standard studio are completely full as are most studios at the other couple of resorts I’m interested in trying. This morning I saw availability shockingly at another resort but wasn’t sure how to go about booking this stay so that I didn’t cancel my room at riviera for a couple days only to have the new resort dates get booked up in the meantime. Is there some way to modify your stay (shorten the number of nights) and fill in those dates with a room at another resort so that you don’t end up losing out on both rooms? Thanks for all your help!

I would try calling, I believe that's your best bet!

If you have the points, just book the 3 days at resort "B" then do a modify on the current reservation, dropping the 3 days.

That’s the problem, I have all my points for that year booked up between that trip and a September trip.

You can't just modify a portion of a current reservation to change part of it to something else while maintaining part of it. You would need to modify to reduce the days on the current reservation and then add the new 2nd part. In the future if you think that you may want to do a split stay you may want to book it as 2 separate reservations in order to easily be able to modify one portion or the other.

This is why some planning ahead is sometimes required- but it comes with experience. If you ever plan to do a split stay, book your home resort as a split and put different names on the reservation so they don’t automatically merge it. It’s so easy to later amend the names. Then you can go ahead and book your one or two alternative resorts at 7 months knowing you’ve always got home as a backup. if you end up staying at your home resort you can then get them merged by calling or just ask at check in that you are not moved.

If all of your points are booked, then you will need to call, or risk losing the entire reservation, if you try to modify online. Online would have been fine, if you had the extra points, as BillPA suggested.
