how to prevent shorts from riding up

I say this, especially on vacation who cares what you are wearing as long as you are comfy. Those people you don't know and are probably never going to see again. However, when seeing your mom just don't wear the things she doesn't like. I am self conscious so if someone told me it didn't look good I wouldn't wear it. But I have seen some flattering skorts. As for being over 35 that is so dumb. Not too many people have great thighs, Lord knows I don't. I say wear what makes you comfy.

I just tape the shorts to my legs and they stay there. I find duct tape works well.

Hello - I have a question -- I have been told by my mother that since I am over 35 and have what someone above called "Pooh" thighs, that I should never wear short skirts or skorts because it's just "wrong." I happen to own two or three pair of skorts and I happen to love them but after hearing my mother complain so many times, I have put them up in my closet.
I love them because when the shorts inside DO ride up, no-one else can tell and I think they actually look more slimming from behind than regular shorts.
Ive never heard such a rule.
Im not a very small woman either and I live in skorts for all the same reasons you stated. They are more flattering than shorts, no one can see when the shorts ride up, and I just generally like the look.
Take your skorts out and wear them proudly :)

I am over 50 and a Grandma several times over, and pooh sized. I do not wear short shorts (do not want to scare small children, pets and tourists) but I do wear shorts that are above my knee. Luckily which do not ride up anymore thanks to the antpers/deo tip I got here a few months ago. Just wanted to say my own DMom and DDad wear shorts and they are in their 80s so it is fashion rule I ever heard before. I would just not wear them near her and do as you want otherwise.

I am proud to be an All American Shorts Girl.... :sunny:

I know my mom feels the same way as the other poster's mom. Mature ladies shouldn't wear shorts unless they are in great shape with nice legs. My mom has worn jeans every day of the year for the last 30 years. In Arizona!!! I think she's a little bit crazy. I feel like I can't breathe when it's 110 degrees and I'm in jeans!

I just don't care if I look bad wearing shorts. I only have 2 pair and I wear them mostly around the house and change into capris when we go somewhere. But there are some days that I just dont care and I wear my shorts out.

haven't put shorts on my Pooh-sized thighs in years. Found the skorts look and feel wonderful. They do sometimes ride up a little in the middle but the skirt part hides this from view!!!

I second that 100%

Please let me know where you all find skorts!!! I have looked all over the state of MI and can't find them anywhere. I have looked at Target too!
Yes, I am Pooh sized, over 40 and wear shorts! They are not short shorts but are above the knee. Who says Poohs can't be as comfortable as Twiggys? Wear what you feel comfortable in as long as people don't see too much :thumbsup2 . I think Pooh sized people in shorts look better than any size person roaming a park in see through white shirts or skimpy bathing suits. :rolleyes1 I will try the Deoderant thing as I do hate it when my shorts ride up.

If your shorts are riding up, they don't fit properly. You need to buy a bigger size.

Not necessarily. Sometimes it has to do with the material the shorts are made of. I have a swimsuit that's a combination tank suit/nylon running-type shorts. The suit fits just great (it's not too small), but the nylon running shorts ride up in the center as I walk - very annoying! It has to do with the material rubbing against itself as I walk. I quite wearing the swimsuit for that very reason, but will try it again using one of the solutions on this web page.

I'm sorry but I disagree with this statement. My shorts/skorts fit fine but due to my roly poly thighs rubbing together, they do ride up. If I bought a bigger size, they would not fit around my waist and would still probably ride up.

Thanks to all for your help with my skorts questions - I am going to pull them out of my closet for our upcoming trip. I know my mom won't be there and I will just be more comfortable in them. If anyone makes a comment that I am too old for them I will simply say that I am proud to be 38 and very proud of my legs. Ha!

I bought them about three years ago at JC Penney's. They are St John's Bay and are just like what they are still selling in the stores today I think.

Just for the record, I am also going to be trying the anti-perspirant theory. Here at home first as I tend to be quite allergic to some of them.

Lane Bryant is where I bought most of mine, although I did get a couple at Target last summer.

Another vote for BODYGLIDE!!! That stuff is fantastic! I tried it for the first time this year, and it really works! Just be sure to put it all around your legs. I tried just putting it in between, but that didn't work as well. I hated wearing shorts before, but now I don't mind at all!!! :thumbsup2

One thing about the skorts - you may not be able to tell from the front that they are riding up, but the back view is a different story! :cool1:

Duct tape curse any problem!

As my dh likes to say "If it doesn't work duct it!"

I also read the previous thread on anti-perspirant/deoderant thread, I tried it and it works great. I also use it on my thighs when wearing skirts. I told my sister and made a believer out of her. Of course, the first time dh saw me applying it he thought I was crazy.

I am going to try it under my bra also since in the hot weather I get itchy there.

I love the tips I get on the disboards!

I'm not "Pooh sized" (I love that expression :thumbsup2 ) but I am hippy and have the same problem (I guess I'm more Elastigirl sized - but flat chested). I have found that it's not so much the material of the shorts as the cut and style of the shorts that affect me. The cut I have found that works best is flat-front with pockets on the side. I also buy them a size too big. They do kinda gape in the back, but they're comfy so who cares, right?

I've never had good luck with skorts, but the new skirts out now that are knee-length and pleated look great - especially if the pleats are the large box pleats.

Also, the main ingredient in Bodyglide is zinc oxide - that wonderful white stuff that is a notorious white-nosed sunblock. It's also the active ingredient in a lot of diaper creams - which are less expensive than Bodyglide.

I wouldn't do capris unless you go in December or January. It's just too hot for that.

I heard there is a "LIPO-IN-A-BOX" underwear. Can't hurt to check it out. : :thumbsup2

Yeah, kinda. I know this because my mother buys them for me every chance she gets. I absolutely refuse to wear a girdle like "good Southern girls" do. I know NO ONE who wears a girdle. But I digress. The "LIPO-IN-A-BOX" underwear is basically super-tight bike shorts. I wear them to church when I don't want to look lumpy in my dresses but that's about it because they are super-tight uncomfortable.

The ones I have are skirted all the way around. You'd never know there were shoirts underneath.

Where did you find those??? I NEED some!! :cool1:

I found some at Dress Barn that were jean material and longer, the skirt was only in the front, but they didn't ride up at all after I covered myself with bodyglide.
