how to prevent shorts from riding up

I read somewhere else on the DISboard about using anti-perspirant/deoderant sticks on your thighs...I tried it and it works! I am also very pooh sized. Skirts are great if you don't have to do a lot of walking, but for me they are worse than shorts because my thighs rub together and the raw skin leaves me barely able to walk.

I hadn't heard of this deoderant thing but, I am with you.

I am Pooh sized too and I did just buy 3 pair of shorts at Sears. They were clearanced at $10.99 each. They are in the Women's World section. They come to right at my knees so not bunching up. I have the same problem and the chaffing is awful. I found that baby powder that says Medicated really really helps. After a long day in the park, put it on before you go to bed. I also found knit shorts in the Mens are longer and therefore don't ride up as much either. :wave2:

I have this problem too. I considered taking up jogging, but I was afraid my thighs would rub together too much, making my sweat pants burst into flames! :teeth:

You do not have to ditch the shorts you have...The antipers-deoderant thing works great. I had the same problem for a long time, then I heard about Body Glide and someone suggested use a antipers-deoderant, which i did in May at WDw and it worked wonderful. I now use it all the time whenever I wear shorts anywhere. My shorts no longer ride up, I did not have to buy any new ones and my problem was solved. It also works well underneath bra bands in high heat and humidity. If you want any further info just PM me, but I am a big believer in that great advice I found here on DIS.

I have capris but I would much rather wear my shorts while in Florida.

there is a chafing cream made by masingil (i think) i love wearing skirts and use that to stop it. the stuff really works. its like $4 a tube, and if i put it on in the AM i dont have to rapply at all.

i have never tried it with shorts to prevent the ride up. i will now though and see if it works. i hate when that happens and very rarely wear shorts because of it.

2 questions:

Does the antiprespirant-deodorant hurt your skin?

Is bodyglide scented?

1. If you can tolerate the antiperspirant under your arms without a problem, it shouldn't hurt your skin elsewhere. (Some people have really sensitive skin, though, including me - I tried Dove brand Sensitive Skin antiperspirant, and it doesn't irritate my underarms.)

2. Bodyglide is unscented - it's a clear gel, and comes in an applicator like a gel antiperspirant stick.

No, the antipersperant/deo does not hurt your skin at all, and leaves no white or deo marks on your shorts..I have been using it since May all the time and never had a problem with it.

Yeah, I get that chaving so bad. I even tried wearing swimming trunks instead with water rides and it still didnt help!

Mr. Mike

The anti-perspirent/deodorant works well for any areas of chaffing. Just reapply it again latter in the day if you need to . It has always worked for me and I use the "Sure Unscented Stick" brand which is cheaper than buying Bodyglide! :thumbsup2

I've had a huge problem with the whole chafing/riding up problem. Thanks for all of the great ideas!! :goodvibes

I'm so glad i found this thread. I have this problem to, i dont know how many pairs of shorts i have tied on and they all ride up. I'm going on another shopping trip next week to have another search for shorts and skirts. I agree that skirts are more flattering than shorts however trying to get off and on some of the rides in a skirt is tricky.

Another vote for Body Glide, although I admit I haven't tried the anti-perspirant substitute.

As for the types of shorts, you might want to buy those that are designed for a lot of activity (walking, running, hiking) and which feature two layers. They work like a slip/skirt combination, with the underlayer being quite comfortable and sometimes being made of Wicking material to keep you cool. You can find such shorts in many different stores, but you might want to check out the Junonia line of clothing (which also carries other styles). Also, here's a Junonia link that describes the kind of short I'm talking about:
http://www.junonia.com/infocenter/Plus_size_shorts_for_any_kind_of_activity.htm

Otherwise, you might wish to try shorts made of heavier material, like twill, or perhaps shorts that are a bit longer, like Capris.

This year longer shorts have also been in style so you might want to try some. I got a cheap pair off of the clearance rack at Belk's and they're great. They are made from a khaki twill so that may make a difference too.
Anyway they hit just above my knees so they are too long to be in the ride up zone :lmao: I'm going to take some of that Bodyglide w/me in Oct. because I also really like tank style sundresses. Best of luck! :thumbsup2

Loved this thread I have been wearing more capris and longer shorts. Just picked up a pair at Old Navy for $4.89. clearenced. Definitely happy with my purchase. Check them out!

Just wanted to post that I tried the anti-perspirant today with my worst offending shorts - it worked great! Whoda thunk it? Thanks for the tip! :smooth:

:thumbsup2 I am not very small either, and I love the new "Bermuda" style shorts. They are long enough not to ride up, but still shorts!. I really love them, and I feel comfortable in them too!

Hello - I have a question -- I have been told by my mother that since I am over 35 and have what someone above called "Pooh" thighs, that I should never wear short skirts or skorts because it's just "wrong." I happen to own two or three pair of skorts and I happen to love them but after hearing my mother complain so many times, I have put them up in my closet.
I love them because when the shorts inside DO ride up, no-one else can tell and I think they actually look more slimming from behind than regular shorts.
I'm just curious as to your thoughts are on this topic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly crazy about the fasion rules but at the same time, I don't want to offend others that have to look at me either. I have been working hard on weight loss and have lost some weight but I am not down to a healthy weight just yet. My DH says I look fine in my skorts but my mom has me totally paranoid.
Are there fashion rules for this? I can hear some of you laughing as you are reading this!!

I can't wait to get home and try the deodorant with my shorts. If that works I will.......well, not sure what I will do......but I will be a happy camper!! :lmao:
