How to organize 2 families in a 2 bdr

We're planning our first DVC trip this summer to WDW and will be taking our sister's family with us. I was planning to get a 2 bdr. We both have 2 children each (so it would be 2 families of 4 with children ages 4-10). For those of you who vacationed 2 families in a 2 bdr, how did you split the rooms/beds? Is one bedroom "better" than the other? Thoughts? TIA!:wave2:

Where are you staying? Which resort?
In BWV the second bedroom is actually a lock off studio unit. The door to the one bedroom is in the living room, so one bedroom on each side of the unit. The master bedroom has a king size bed/jacquzzi tub room with a vanity and large closet. The living room has a pull out sofa, full (but small) kitchen, front hall closet, washer/dryer & full bathroom with a shower stall. The 2nd bedroom (studio unit), has one regular bathroom, vanity outside of the tub/toilet room, small kitchenette, with mini fridge, wet bar sink, coffee maker, microwave and if I remember correctly a toaster. There's a queen size bed and a pull out sleeper sofa that will definitely sleep two kids. There's also a table and two chairs and an set of drawers with a tv set, and usually a balcony off each room.

Personally, I'd put my sister and her husband in the studio unit bed, with her two kids on the pull out sofa, so they have their own privacy, like a full room/kitchenette to themselves, and I'd put my two kids on the pull out sofa in the living room, while my husband and I took the master bedroom.

Happy planning, and good luck!

We're planning to stay at SSR on DPs. It looks like the "studio" portion of the 2 bdr can potentially be 2 queen beds, or 1 queen with 1 pull out full sleeper. Is this something you can request, or do they just assign these rooms arbitrarily? 2 queen beds would probably be preferred (although, it's not like we would put away the sleeper every day, so it would pretty much stay as a bed for the entire stay ;) ).

It's the dedicated 2 bedroom that have the 2 Q's. Your reservation should say "lock off" or "dedicated." If you want the other one than you are booked for, it would take a new reservation to get it.

When we've had guests, we have always taken the master, our son took the sleeper sofa in the living room and our guests took the second bedroom. We only stay at OKW when we bring friends along. Those two bedrooms are much larger and don't seem as crowded with a full house.

We're going with our inlaws. We're taking the master as it's the "better" room. The kids will sleep on the sofa in the living room and my inlaws are in the studio.

There's not many people I would give up the master for :)

We're the DVC owners and usually we take the MB in 2 bedrooms. However, in May the extended family will be arriving on Sunday and DH don't come until Tuesday night. I don't have the heart to "throw" them out of the MB (I certainly don't expect it to go vacant when we're not there)...so, DH and I have booked a studio for our part of the stay. We'll be going on a cruise together, and then 1 night at Kidani...we'll get the MB there:)

Are there rules against using one? My kids are ROUGH sleepers and need their own space.

Also, if my sis comes for 3 nights, do we have to add her to the Dining plan too? Or can we leave that alone?:confused3

At Saratoga Springs there are actually dedicated 2 bedrooms that have queen bed and a sleeper sofa in the second bedroom. It doesn't have the little kitchen in the second bedroom. Just ask when booking. I didn't realize that this was the case and was told that I had a sleeper sofa in the second bedroom instead of a second queen bed. Kinda confusing that this is the case. Last time we stayed in a 2 bedroom there it had the 2 queen beds.

I would definately take the Master for myself and let them take the other bedroom since you both have 2 kids.

Yes you can use a blow up mattress & that is what we did when going with another family. We gave the other family the second bedroom & we took the master. We brought 2 blow up mattresses for our kids so we could leave the living room free in case our company got up early & our kids were still sleeping.

Everyone staying on your reservation has to be on the dining plan for the entire time of your stay so you can not just add them for the nights they will be there.

You have got to be one of the nicest people in the world to give up a stay in the beautiful big bedroom.
I have given up the MBR in a 2BR a few times for logistics sake, but I can't say that I my dreams were as sweet as they could have been. But more than the bigger bed, I miss the bubble tub before bed. I could never bring myself to keep people out of their bedroom to use it, and since you can't shut it off from the MBR, I give it up.
I don't mind the studio, but hate to be on the pull out in the livingroom, just because I am selfish that way...
I agree with everybody else... you give your guests the studio and keep the 1BR for your own family, as ownership has its' perks. And then the other family can maintain their own privacy. Seperate time can be important every once in a while, to keep every one in balance.

When I'm taking my sister's family to AKV next July I got them a 2 bd and DH and I a studio. She has 3 kids and I really will need a place I can go and be quiet. It's going to mean a boat load of points, but I want everyone to be comfortable and we'll be spending some days at the resort/room vs being in the parks every sec of every day.

Sure as long as you aren't over the occupancy limit. We have done that when the breakdown of sexes doesn'e work with the existing bedding.

We always take the master, I don't care where everyone else sleeps! :rotfl:

My family of 4 stays in the master, and the guests family of 4 stays in the studio. We don't sleep the kids on the sleeper in the living room because they go to bed to early while the parents are still up for a while.
