How to manage points question

Hi all. Please tell me the best way to proceed or if it even matters.

We are already members and are in the process of buying a resale contract. On our regular contract, we have 18 points left to use from our 2010 allotment of points. If all goes well, our resale contract will close in Jan. We will be getting 2 points banked from 09 and 90 points from 2010.

We are planning a Halloween trip for Oct 2011 staying at Kadani and my 11 month window is here. Should I book now knowing I'll have to borrow those points from 2011 or should I wait till Jan and use the 09 and 10 points. When do I have to use the 2 points from 09 by and can they be banked?

The 2 points already banked from 2009 cannot be banked again and will expire at the end of their Use Year. The points from the 2010 Use Year can be banked - also depending on the Use Year which will determine your banking window. If it is a February, March or April Use Year you will be beyond the banking deadline before January even starts and even a June Use Year woulr require that the points be banked by January 31.

What is the Use Year for the contract you are purchasing?

With a December Use Year, the points banked from 2009 may be used thru November 30, 2011 and you will be able to bank any 2010 points in the resale contract but you can still use them for a trip in October, 2011. While you can reserve that trip right now, I think I'd wait and use the resale points after closing instead of borrowing from your 2011 Use Year. You shouldn't have too much trouble reserving at Kidani while still within your 11 month priority.

If you are unlikely to need to cancel, you could go ahead and borrow points from your 2011 Use Year and then bank the points from your 2010 Use Year, but then you would not use the banked 2009 points. If you do cancel the borrowed points from 2011 would still need to be used by November 30, 2011 or expire - so I'd still wait until I could use the 2009/2010 resale points.
