how to make sweet tea

Got to be a regional difference because here along the Gulf Coast, it's honey (or brown sugar) glazed ham & sugar in our tea. Karo is for constipated babies!

Doctor approved! :)

The only thing i have ever used karo for here in my part of the deep south is pecan pie

Pecan pie. Love it! (off the stuff at least for now)

OMG! So true....and it works. :rotfl:

Very little Karo syrup in this family (Mississippi and Louisiana). And the women in my family would faint if I even mentioned to make sweet tea with it. We only use sugar (not simple syrup) and make it essentially the same as the majority of the other posters.

Yep, right on for our part of the country (deep south LA)

:thumbsup2

And divinity :thumbsup2: NEVER heard of anyone using it as a glaze :confused3

:thumbsup2

New use to me, however, according to the Mayo clinic, it doesn't work.

It was good enough, and worked for my grammy, my mommy, and for me LOL That was always the advice we got for babies.

Corn syrup in tea? Ugh. Not unless you actually like the taste of the bottled stuff.

The reason for using simple syrup to make iced tea is to be able to split the batch so that it can be served unsweetened to people who like it that way. You cannot add granulated sugar to tea that is not hot and get the right flavor; it won't dissolve properly. However, simple syrup WILL dissolve properly in room-temp or chilled tea, which means that you can use it to sweeten smaller quantities without having to brew a second batch.

OMG, I just wish I knew this about corn syrup when DS was a toddler!!!
You guys are over 10 years too late!!!

Nope, no corn syrup for me.
ONLY when necessary, by definition, like a good Pecan Pie!!!!

We don't do soda or anything with HFCS if I can help it at all.
Ewwww!!!!

Sweeten the tea while hot.
Let all the sugar and tea brew up that deliciousness together.
Easy enough to also have some unsweetened if there are those who want it that way.

Once the kiddies are old enough, 1 teaspoon of honey in a cup of warm water will work for constipation too. For adults, use between 1 tsp and 1 tbsp in a glass of hot as you can stand it water.

Here in the Deep South real sweet tea is made with granulated sugar:thumbsup2.

However, the best sweet around here is at Captain D's. YUM
Is Captain D's sweet tea made with granulated sugar? :confused3 I couldn't tell you, but it is so good I think they might be using Crack :rotfl:
